My phone available for upgrade in April, the contract ends in August. There are two other phones on mine contract that eligible for upgrade and I can move one of those upgrade eligibility to mine phone and buy a droid today. lol. screw it. I'll figure it out.

Edit: I should be able buy a droid today, add the data plan and still have my entire contract expired in August..

I can get the Droid 2 from Verizon for 49.99 which is certified pre-owned. I'll just have to add the data plan to my monthly phone bill. I dropped mine phone last night in water...It was only in water for two seconds but it still glitchy. I left it in a bag of rice last night, but it vibrating for no reason....Crap....I didn't hurt mine phone intentionally so I would have an excuse for a new phone. I swear. lol.

Or you can get an Android phone from T-Mobile for free. They have at least 10 different Android phones to choose from - some of them are free, and some are even 4G. Verizon has....well....the Droid. They also lock you into a 2 year agreement where you can't upgrade until the end of the contract. Oh, and none of their phones are 4G.

50 bucks for a used phone, slower speeds, and a restrictive contract? Makes sense if you don't think about it. ;)

Verizon has more coverage and their 3g is faster than T mobiles 4g.And Verizon recently came out with 4g.I dont think its out on their phones yet though. There's a reason Verizon is the number one wireless service in the country lol.Because they have awesome customer service, the most coverage and they're the fastest  ;D

I'd love to see your proof that their 3g is faster than T-Mobile's 4G. I'm seeing 9mbs download speeds.  How's that 3G working for ya?

But you are right about one thing: Verizon has nothing that works on their 4G network.  T-Mobile has around 25 devices that works with theirs.

Lol Att and Tmobile will always be faster than Verizon. CDMA, which is what VZW is running, cannot reach the same speeds as GSM and HSDPA. Vzw's 4g technically is GSM but they started too late. By the time they get their 4g everywhere, everyone else will be on 5g  8-)

My apologies.  I see this has deviated from the original question. It's about choosing between Android phones and the iPhone.  Not Verizon vs. the rest.

I've been using Android phones for 2 1/2 years now.  Love 'em.

There is only one iphone (although newer versions), but lots of android phones to choose from.

So which androids are we talking about? Which one is "best?"

Droids are faster and smarter.Atleast if you're on Verizon. The only thing i think the iPhone has on the Droids are that they have a better screen pixel thing.Like the little app box things and all the color really pops. And longer battery life.

I have the Droid 2. I love it so much haha. It also smokes the iphone in ways to text. I can use the actual keyboard, the touch screen keyboard, the normal touch text thing when you're holding the phone normally, swype, or i can talk and it will write down what i say :)

Seriously?

Another big user of the voice to text in my Evo Droid. I was recently at my sister and her husbands place, and they are both longtime iPhone users. Between the voice to text and swype, I had them ready to switch! It is cool to hit a button, say "send text message to bob want to go fishing question mark" and have the text message "Want to go fishing?" pop up with a send button, all correct and ready to go.

Plus must of the apps are free. We got 2 Evo's at the same time for the wife and me around Thanksgiving last year. Been very happy with them. I came from Windows Mobile, though. So anything would've been an improvement!

Providers can label their service whatever they want, but the bottom line for me is download speed and latency.

None of them are even remotely close to real 4G standards.  I'll be content if I ever see the day of consistent 10+ Mbps downloads - - - AWAY from major urban areas.

Too bad nobody has Tmobile?im sure if Tmobile was faster and had more coverage then it would have more people and Verizon wouldnt be the number one

The first thing to do is to find out the best carrier for your area.  Then you can compare phones.  Also, you can't compare an operating system (android) with a phone (iphone).  It's not a valid comparison.  Some of the android phones are garbage.

The iphone is a great phone, but only if AT&T has good service in your area.  If not, you just bought yourself an expensive mp3 player.  I have the 3GS and love it.  I'll probably upgrade to the 5 if it comes out this summer as they've talked about.  I have no desire to access the root of my cell phone.  There isn't a program that apple blocks that concerns me all that much.  I don't text a lot so swype isn't a big deal.  I did a quick search and there are speech to text apps for the i phone, again something that I don't care about.

The only reason AT&T gets bad reviews is that they didn't execute the i phone rollout well at all.  They were caught off guard with the actual data needs of those users.  Now that people will be switching back to verizon AT&T's service will likely get much better (where it was bad).  I got my first cell phone on Ameritech which changed to Cingular which is now AT&T.  Had their phones for over 10 years now.  No real complaints from me.

Funny because I've raced my friends iPhones and smoked them lol.And i love how when we go up to the mountain and hill areas i have full reception when my At and t friends don't.Ill give at and t credit, because i actually know people that have it and they are the number 2.T mobile on the other hand...i honestly don't know a single person who has it.I seriously doubt the lesser company is gonna be faster than one of the giants like at and t sprint or verizon

What about the Droid Global that can work with both GSM, and CDMA?  Im not real knowledgable on this side of things, but will that ability allow it to work at the faster speeds of GSM?

I'm with Sprint and just ditched my blackberry curve for the HTC Evo. I love it but god I'm lost, lol. I just don't know of any good apps and games to get. Any help? and those with Evo how do you take a clean crisp clear picture?? Mine always seems blurry.

Won't make any difference when you're in the US.  Verizon's towers broadcast in CDMA.  The GSM on those phones is only used when travelling internationally.

Verizon's 4G service won't be CDMA though, but the phone's voice will still use CDMA technology.

GSM is not an air interface (CDMA is).

Most GSM networks, including the HSPA and HSPA+, use W-CDMA for the interface (yes - - a variant of CDMA).

So referring to a network as "GSM" is a bit misleading, as the air interface could be W-CDMA, TD-CDMA, or as is the case with Verizon, OFDM, which is a complete departure from CDMA, and more similar to WiMax.

I find it all quite confusing......it appears that in the future, the only network that is going to stick to CDMA is T-Mobile.

Even Sprint has indicated that they might be going the OFDM direction (perhaps alongside WiMax) for its future networks.

I don't think I'll ever really understand cell networks.....I just want my phone to download like broadband cable - - anywhere.....is that too much to ask?   ;)

I kinda thought that GSM was only being used if you are abroad, but I wasn't sure.  Thanks.

The Evo camera is not as good as the iPhone camera. At least not without having to pay more attention to the settings. Make sure you set the correct light type for where you are (indoors vs outdoors basically). And choose a higher ISO speed if you're getting blurry pictures. I'm used to it now, so my pictures are turning out great. But it does take some dialing in.

As far as apps, that depends on you and what you like to do. There are 1000's of them for pretty much anything you want. Do some searching on some of the droid forums to get ideas or input on them. I'm not a big gamer, so I just have a few simple ones on mine.

I disagree. AT&T has more issues than that. I'm a long time Consumer Reports subscriber, and they are always rated really poorly in almost every category in their articles, and that is based on real customer feedback. Here's what their Jan, 2011 mag has to say:

AT&T is now the worst carrier. AT&T was the only carrier with scores that dropped significantly in our satisfaction survery of Consumer Reports readers. AT&T is now positioned in last place overall and in almost every market we rate. AT&T scored lowest in almost every respect.

I'm sure they have some happy users, too. But nationally, they rate very poorly.

BTW, that issue of Consumer Reports has a lot of info on iPhone vs Droid, service plans, etc. A good one to pick up if you can still find it.

I have one too.  The camera is EXCELLENT. Take off the back cover (battery cover) and peel off the protective film from the camera lens. It is hard to tell it is on there, so you might not have noticed it.  It makes the pictures blurry if you leave it on.

You may be surprised to learn that the same Consumer Reports article ranks T-Mobile second only to Verizon.

Bottom line

Verizon remains the best choice for top service in most cities, but keep an open mind. Its premium prices and your own needs (for a particular phone, for example) make other carriers, notably T-Mobile, worth considering.

My family and just about everyone I know are jumping ship from Verizon to AT&T and T-Mobile because Verizon has been so awful up here lately.  ::)

You know im sorry for getting kinda in to this thing Glenn lol im way to over opinionative on things on here some times. We strayed off topic a little bit. I prefer Verizon and in my opinion think its the best. But for some people they prefer others or other companys have better service in their areas. Bottom line,Androids are better than iPhones.Atleast i think so  ;D
