Super User Sam Posted January 30, 2011 Super User Posted January 30, 2011 Maybe you guys in the flyover states, the deep south and out west will have better weather than us over here on the east coast. Here is what Dave at www.wxrisk.com is predicting for the first week of February. MAIN WEATHER ISSUES NEXT WEEK (FEB 2-8) There are two scenarios we have to consider with this cold front in the week 2 forecast. The first one is being favored by the European model which has done well over the past few weeks. The European drives the cold front to the East coast as new arctic air settles in across the Northeast into NC and the TN valley. Low pressure develops over the Louisiana Delta and tracks into into the Great Lakes. This sort of scenario would not be a snowy track or snow event for any portion of NC VA MD DE or WVA because Low pressure areas track being from Louisiana into the Great Lakes is going to pull up a lot of warm air. But the European model still has that cold arctic High over the northeast and this implies therefore a POSSIBLE ice storm. A second arctic cold front comes through the East Coast FEB 3. The Canadian and GFS models are significantly further to the east. These two weather models develop Low pressure over the Delta but track the Low either " up" the East coast OR off the NC coast. Given the amount of cold air over the Northeast either one of the scenarios would produce a significant snowstorm for NC VA MD DE. Right now either scenario is equally possible. Given that the Models are NOT developing the Blocking patterns in the Jet stream over Eastern Canada and Greenland.... I THINK the European scenario is more likely. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I think I am going today if I can get sometime. I'll let you know if I do head out to fish. Quote

1inStripes Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 The system seems to be staying north of us as far as the ice and such goes. Probably just a lot of rain. I hope it doesn't end up icy. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 I'm an extremely worried about this one. They are saying over a foot of snow here with possibility of ice as well. I'm thinking of missing work...I can't drive in this stuff. The last big one we had here I was in the hospital(3 days) watching my son being born. That was in 05'. I never had to worry about driving in any of it. ;D Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 You guys need to look at this as a glass half-full thing. Tons of snow, can't go to work, you might as well hop on the old computer and order up a bunch of new tackle! There must be sale going on somewhere. You might even save more money than you could've earned by going to work! Quote
GTrombly Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 This is what were looking at for tuesday to thursday Quote
