Fisher of Men Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I've had some of my former students tell me about Taco Bell as well. They said that the refried beans were packaged as flakes in a bag. They just "hydrate" them to make the beans. This must explain how they can sell things so cheap. I must admit that my stomach can't handle the Bell either. Quote
Derek84 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I'm a big fan of Chipotle if you have one nearby. They source all their foods from local farms and do their part to help the local economy. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 25, 2011 Super User Posted January 25, 2011 At the other end of the spectrum, this is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to in the states. Super User BASSclary Posted January 25, 2011 Super User Posted January 25, 2011 I like the taste of Taco Bell. If it looks good I eat it. However, My stomach just can't handle taco bell. Lets just say there are some Volcano erruptions a few hours later ;D Yet I still eat it every 2 weeks or so. Quote

Super User slonezp Posted January 26, 2011 Super User Posted January 26, 2011 I'm a commercial refrigeration mechanic and, for the better part of 15 years, have done work in just about every major fast food chain. Most everything Taco Bell serves is shipped from a regional warehouse prepackaged in clear plastic bags. The "hot" food is placed frozen, in the bag, into a rethermalizer which is essientialy a drum of boiling water. It is then transfered to the prep area and is kept warm via steam, in the older stores, and dry heat in the newer stores. The cold stuff is moved from the walk in cooler to a refrigerated prep table. As far as how much actual food is in their food, I'm not sure. What do you expect for .99 and served in less than 60 seconds? TB is one of the cleaner fast food chains out there. I've seen it all and I mean all when it comes to the kitchens of restaurants, fast food and sit down, cheap and expensive. All I have to say to that is: It is what it is. Quote

My neighbor is an electrician who's been in the kitchens of so called 'five star' restaurants in Manhattan. Taco Bell would be a step up from some of them. Quote

northern basser Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I'm a big fan of Chipotle if you have one nearby. They source all their foods from local farms and do their part to help the local economy. ^they are good! I'm pickier these days about what fast food I will eat, but I'll eat the bell once in a great while. My good buddy had to do some construction in one that was in operation and refuses to eat there anymore. He just says "rat meat". I've been a plumber for almost 20 years and it is safe to say that if you could see behind the scenes at most of the places a person eats at it would make you think twice. Roaches, old food hiding under ovens and fryers, mice, rats....... Anyone hungry yet? Quote

Super User cart7t Posted January 26, 2011 Super User Posted January 26, 2011 I hadn't eaten a TB in awhile. I got a 3 taco meal the other day. Hmmmmm. The meat is noticeably lighter in color than I remembered and it tasted like.... well.... lips and azzes. Quote
Super User CWB Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Where do you think that little Chihuahua ended up anyway? Quote
edbassmaster Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I have been telling people for years that the "beef" is not beef at Taco Bell. You can just tell by the taste and consistency, it is disgusting. With that said...I get the three taco meal when I go haha. Chipotle is much better though imo. Quote

zero Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I don't care if its some disgusting concoction made up in a lab, or a cute furry little critter....if it tastes good, down the hatch. My only criteria, no ham, fungus, or okra. me too but i love ham Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Ha ! I'm totally not surprised. However, 1 1/2 years ago, I wouldn't have cared the slightest bit though, as I was in such lousy shape, I didn't give a $*** if I lived or died anyway. Seriously. I'd have probably read this thread and thought, "Yea', Taco Bell sounds good.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Funny how things can change, if you work hard enough. I haven't had a bite of fast food in the last 1 1/2 years, and Lord willing, I never will again. Now I'm splitting hairs over what types, and how many carbs, proteins, and fats, I should have, at what times during the day, and surrounding my workouts.... Fast food / junk food, just hardly has any place in my train of thought anymore. I don't eat it, so why think about it. I think a normal person (read; somebody who doesn't have a food addiction) could eat junk / fast food once in a while, and probably be just fine. I'm not one of those people. It would have killed me If I'd have let it. Fish Quote
BassThumb Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Did anybody actually think Taco Bell's mystery meat was 100% actual beef? All you have to do is take one look at it to be able to tell it's not. Chipotle makes a much better taco or burrito than TB, and it's no doubt healthier too. You can also buy TB seasoning and have taco night at home. Quote
