OHIO Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I found it when I was walking in the woods behind my house today. It was about three feet in length and it looked like it had a hitch on it so it could be pulled by something. Anyone know? Quote

brushhoggin Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 could be pulled by a tractor to aerate dirt Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 It looks to be a Knudson Hadderly model 145 Multi Purpose Farm Implement from the late 30's. I just saw one appraised on Antiques Roadshow for $25,000. ;D It's scrap metal... Quote
OHIO Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 I went back out to look at it and noticed that the four rods on each side are 4-5 inches in the ground. I would be able to lift it up, but the ground is frozen and it won't move. I don't think it's used to aerate the ground because nothing on this thing moves. It's one solid piece except for the hitch part. If it is something like that I would think that it's missing some parts. This is really buggin me. Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 Looks like some kinda grading sector...maybe from something belly mounted, like an old Allis grader or a pony grader. Not sure about the pieces of round stock sticking up though. Quote

flicker Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The first thought that came to mind was it was part of an old hay rake. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 It does look like some type of farm implement. I'd guess the tines stick out both sides so when one side got bent up or worn out, it could easily be turned over. It's possible that several of these could be attached to a bar of some type to cover a wide swath. If I had to hazard a guess, it would be some type of thatcher to rake matted grass, or possibly dragged behind a harrow, much like a section of chain link fence. Quote
OHIO Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 It probably is some type of farm equipment, but now I'm wondering how it ended up in the middle of the woods. :-? Quote

RAMBLER Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 It's an A-drag used for working up loose ground. It was probably left lay where somebody quit using it and the woods grew up around it. Quote

B-Dozer Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Back in the day, most things were "home made". If you were lucky you had a friend with a stick welder. A visit to the junkyard got you some materials to make most anything. Nobody ever heard of Home Depot. Quote
