This morning dropping off the wife to work Igot on the gas really hard around a corner, and lost all power to my truck.

2004 COLORADO4X4 got message on dashboard stating reduced power and could not get the truck past 30mpgs

all the way back home.

ANY HELP,

It's a 3.7 5cyl. w/42.000 miles on it.

I'm having a bad week with vehicles.

I am by no means an expert, but I would take it to an auto zone type store and ask them to run a OBD ( On Board Diagnostic) on it to see what codes pop up. I think most of them are doing this for free now.

Ya that's my next step,

Right now i disconceted the battery cables hoping the computer will re boot

Had battery cable un hooked for an hour then rehooked them up now every things  seams to be back to normal.

well...i would have guessed an o2 sensor....but i am not a car guy by trade by any stretch.

Is it possible that you hit the rev-limiter when you "got on the gas really hard"?

Maybe the truck's computer put it into "limp mode" to keep you from tearing something up?

This is likely what happened. Something (oil pressure, water temp, any number of things) ran outside of it's parameters and it went into self protection. Pulling codes is the right thing to do, but Auto Zone is the last place I'd have diagnosing my vehicle. Speaking from experience, codes can be triggered by other things not related to the item that's supposed to be at fault. Often sensors share a common ground (return) path This is best diagnosed by a qualified tech.

That was the first thing that popped into my mind.  Both of my newer cars will do the same thing to protect the engine and transmission.

I was once told that OB2 and OB3 engine controls have a memory of the vehicle driving "history" and this type of thing can happen if you do this; sorta' puts it in safe mode?

Also told that if you remove the negative post for longer than 45 minutes, it will re-set the computer.....

thus said, maybe you need to nail it AFTER you reconnect.....

who knows, it could work? ;)

Take the positive post off, hold it to a ground (any good ground will do) for 1 min. This will reset the computer. It will take about 50 restarts to reset values on the computer. It will also clear any codes.

Works the same way in both my Magnum and my Charger.  Pulling fuse 11 also does the same thing.  I forgot the exact terminology for it though.

On the newer Dodge vehicles, you can also tell what codes are popping up by doing a key cycle a few times.  Can't remember the sequence off the top of my head.  I believe it's off turn to acc, then repeat twice more ending in acc mode.  The codes will pop up on the dash panel.
