I've said it once, I'll say it again; I'd love to have Miles Austin playing down here in Miami.

Austin is the best player on the team hands down.

With regards to the comment about Witten being one of the best tight ends in the league, if you only factor in blocking, then this is true.

He doesn't stand up to a lot of tight ends when it comes to actually getting yards and scoring points.

And someone doesn't understand the game.  Dallas hasn't targetted Witten as much in the red zone recently.  Another problem with the offense.  Witten is considered one of the top 5 TEs in the game and has been for some time.

LOVE IT!

I played 1st and pitched all through my teenage years. I loved pulling the hidden ball trick.

Also, I would hope they don't practice it, considering it was illegal and the refs blew it from what I see and read about the play.

That's because Dallas doesn't get in the redzone.

Red Bear, don't take a knife to a gun fight.  It won't end pretty.  Who has led Dallas in catches each of the last 3 seasons and currently is tied for first this year? Yes, his TD #s arent what they were in 07, but that kind of comes with the territory when you get bracketed by a LB and S due to your ability to catch the ball.  That opens it up for Miles Austin, and Martellus Bennett, and Roy Williams, and Dez Bryant now in the red zone.

You cannot name 5 TEs who are truly considered better than Witten in the NFL.

And O H I O, touche, but when you score on big plays, that happens.

He is one of the best players on the Cowboys this year, but that really isn't saying much.

He has been good in the past, but that doesn't matter because it's in the past.

With that said, I am confident that he will bounce back as soon as Dallas gets their act together.

There may not be five tight ends that are better than him when he is playing well, but there are a couple.

Dallas Clark, Marcedes Lewis, and Antonio Gates are all better IMO.

Gates is the only one that you can really argue there.  Clark is a great receiving TE, but he is an average blocker.  Peyton makes him even better than he really is.  Lewis is good, and having a good year, but so is Peyton Hillis.  Is Peyton Hillis really one of the best backs in the league..NO

Jason Witten is having a terrible year. You can argue about "he is considered one of the best TE's in the league" all you want. Facts don't lie. He has lot's of catches this year. He also has lots of penalties, lots of  drops...some of which have resulted in interceptions, and LOTS of missed blocks. I have also seen him very slow out of his stance, causing him to miss blocks or not get off the line of scrimmage. The NFL is a now league and it makes no difference what he did last year or the year before.

He has not perfomed up to his standards, and by a long shot, this year.

Watch the games with your eyes, not your heart.

I am a cowboy fan as well, but be real.

Hopefully Jason Garrett does a good job this year and get atleast a couple wins. If he gets 4 wins the rest of this season I forsee him being headcoach for next year also.

I hope they wait at least 4 wks. before any possible turnaround.  Does anyone else point and laugh at Jerry when they show him in the booth, or is it just me being a jerk? I do have a fondness for the cowboys though...they're the only team the Lions beat in the playoffs in the last 53 yrs.

I really hope they dont hire gruden, I dont think hes a good fit.

I have mixed feelings about trying to hire Gruden as well.  I kind of like him, kind of don't as a coach.  I wouldn't mind seeing them try to get Harbaugh out of Stanford.

All Jerry Jones has to do is drag a dollar across the Alabama campus and Satan will jump on it and move to Dallas to be the next Cowboys coach.  ;)

He's part of the problem , definately not the solution.

i was talking about wittens redzone production and tds. you said they hadnt targetted him there recently, my point is he hasnt been much of a target there at all, it goes beyond recently. witten is good between the 20s though. and LOL at even throwing martellus bennetts name out, the guy is a bust and jerry jones was an idiot not to trade him to the bengals when they offered a first round pick for him after his rookie season. its a shame yall lost phillips to IR, he is better than bennett and probably can produce close to the numbers witten has receiving, plus he is the best blocking TE on the cowboys.

Bennett isn't great, but that is my point.  He gets a couple of TD's because LBs and S's key on Witten.  The past 3 seasons Big D has had 12 people catch red zone TDs for 68 total.  Witten has 20% of them.

Phillips has alot of potential, but he isn't close to Witten's abilities yet.  I hope Phillips does well.  I saw him play in HS and he's got talent.  Witten would still wear him on a board drill, has better hands, and is faster.

until Dallas bolsters the O-line, tight end production, particularly in the red zone, will be down. Part of the reason for Witten's lack of red zone production is because he is used as a 6th blocker since the O-line can't handle any kind of pas rush, especially if the other team is stunting.

Sadly, even his production in this area is lacking as his blocking skills seem to have eroded along with the teams will to win.

At one point a couple years ago, I wouldn't have traded Witten for another tight end in the league. He is not anywhere near that player this year. What troubles me most is he should be one of the players who RAISED  his level of play during tough times. Instead, he has been a major part of the problem this year. I hope he is able to refocus along with the rest of his teammates and turn it back around next year.

Point the finger at the real culprit please. (J.J.)

He is ultimately responsible for the whole mess. The players are not immune and should, at the very least, compete to the best of their ability. Makes one wonder if the players lack heart, or if they are given a pass for their lack of effort.

Championship teams always have an undeniable 'toughness" to them. This particular group of guys have not shown that...especially on the biggest stage. I don't think Jerry Jones has missed a block, dropped a pass, whiffed on a tackle, or committed a penalty in the last few years. He has, however, been responsible for the acquisition of these players.

Maybe he should draft some football players  instead of going for the "wow" factor as he puts it.
