Super User fishfordollars Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Garrett promoted to interim head coach. guess he didn't want to spend the real money on a head coach with the chance of a lockout next year. Not that it will help Quote
OHIO Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 There was no need to fire him. He is a decent coach with good players and a bad owner. It's Jones who needs to go. Quote

OHIO Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Everyone has a bad year. They got to the playoffs last year, so that has to count for something. It's similar to the situation in Minnesota. Childress is a decent coach who got his team pretty far in the playoffs last year, but this year can't seem to get anything going. It seems like every time a team is doing bad, the coach is always blamed and the coach is not always the reason. Quote

I agree with you about the coaches getting to much of the blame when it is really players not executing what they are paid to do. With Wade Phillips though he has made some stupid coaching mistakes that are really obvious like not using timeouts when you are susposed to, or going for two points when you don't need to. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Not surprised at all. Their games have been embarrassing. Quote

Jones should step away from the GM role, but Phillips SUCKS as a head coach. The Cowboys have been underacheiving for years by playing sloppy football (turnovers and penalties). Quote

shootermcbob Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I am a cowboys fan. I am also a realist. The cowboys are not nearly as talented as everyone seems to think. Look with your eyes, not your heart. Who on that team is an elite player??? MAYBE Demarcus Ware...and that is it. They have some good football players...Ratliff, Austin, Newman, and a few others. Compare that to..say, the Ravens. The Ravens have Lewis, Reed, Ngata, Boldin, to go with several other better than average guys, esp on both lines. And they play every play like it may be their last. Face it fellow cowboys fans, as long as Jerry is GM, this team is going to stink. Everyone gives Wade credit for the 2007 team...the team parcells assembled. Look how far they have regressed from that season. And now look at the talent they have added since then....one player , one player who may be elite or at least a starter ... Dez Bryant. I would have said Mike Jenkins, but he is getting roasted this year. Wade is a really nice man, but a below average head coach. Who knew after last years debacle in Minnesota that Dallas O line was declining...severely? and what did the GM and head coach do about it?? they released their best offensive lineman to save money. and they replaced him with....Doug Free. Just a Guy. Jerry Jones is a terrible evaluator of talent, and worse yet, instead of saying our O line sucks and fixing it, they cut their best o lineman. Unbelievable Quote

Captain Obvious Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Who on that team is an elite player??? MAYBE Demarcus Ware...and that is it Uh what about Witten?? He is one of the best Tight ends in the league And this team does have talent, lets face it they just aren't playing with pride. All the talent in the world is not equal to the true heart of a champion. Its what made Emit, Aikman, Moose, and Irvin great.Other than Emit not one of those guys was the best at what he did. But when it came down to who wanted it more it was always those guys. We will see the Cowboys rise again when Jerry lets a true leader take charge of this team. Until then they will be just smoke and mirrors. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted November 9, 2010 Super User Posted November 9, 2010 I've said it once, I'll say it again; I'd love to have Miles Austin playing down here in Miami. Quote
OHIO Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I've said it once, I'll say it again; I'd love to have Miles Austin playing down here in Miami. Austin is the best player on the team hands down. With regards to the comment about Witten being one of the best tight ends in the league, if you only factor in blocking, then this is true. He doesn't stand up to a lot of tight ends when it comes to actually getting yards and scoring points. Quote

Witten's performance this year is one of the reasons they are 1-7. did you see him whiff on Clay Mathew's who proceeded to stop Marion Barber for a 3 yard loss on Third and 1??? How many penalties does he have this year??? Way too many, and at least a few of them are "focus" penalties...false starts. Watch the games objectively. 3 years ago Witten was elite. He is no longer performing at that level. Austin has not performed to at an elite level either. He is too inconsistent, and leads the league in drops. Does he have the potential to be great...Yes. Red Bear Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 the cowboys have several problems, one of the biggest is lack of heart and leadership, they have a bunch of individuals, but no true leaders. also, the players are not held accountable for their mistakes by anyone. Romo has always been overrated and a turnover waiting to happen. Witten is only good for check downs. Three uniquely talented running backs are going to waste. the oline is as bad as the redskins 08-09 oline. the WRs are also overrated, austin has been dropping everything this year, it seems dez bryant is the only player trying on the dallas offense right now. as for defense, Ware is the only good player the cowpukes have. ratliff is a product of teams overcompensating for ware. anthony spencer = bust. keith brooking = done. the dline is invisible this year. and the secondary is in shambles, newman is way overrated and always has been. no talent at safety either. plus theyre poor at creating turnovers the past several years. i watch a ton football and every game it seems a player is on the sideline hyping up other teammates with a chant or something, i have NEVER seen that with the cowboys, goes back to lack of heart and leadership. as a diehard redskins fan, i am so glad to see the cowboys failing and falling flat on their faces after all the unwarranted offseason hype. oh, and the players dont like jason garrett either from what i understand. Super User Matt Fly Posted November 10, 2010 Super User Posted November 10, 2010 Give that offensive line to Pittsburg and see if the "going all the way thread" would survive the season. Some key factors in the offseason was never fixed, and apparently, the few players we lost on defense that gave us some depth hurt. Witten has been penalty prone, drop prone, and missing key blocks all season. Felix don't get the reps cause Garrett is a throwing fool, and Felix can't pick up the blitz like Barber does. Choice hasn't been given a second chance since fumbling before half opening day, and that leaves Barber as our starting tailback. When Barber was running effective, he was spelling Julius Jones in the second and fourth quarters primarily. Newman looked like an old vet, secondary don't have an Ed Reed or any ball hawking type of player. Jerry gambled on his second year kicker being able to step up and fill the role of a veteran FG kicker and that hasn't worked out too well either. There is some good talent, just not in the key places needed. It was time for humpty dumpy to be fired, and Jason needs to go next. Quote
