BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 28, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 28, 2010 How does it compare to the original? Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 28, 2010 Author Super User Posted December 28, 2010 I like this one better. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 28, 2010 Super User Posted December 28, 2010 Oddly enough, I was thinking about posting a question about this earlier. I need to go out and check it out. I've heard good things about it from a few of my friends. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I saw it....FREAKIN AMAZING. Not John Wayne at all in any way but still very good. Coen Brothers always do a good job and so does Jeff Bridges Quote
OHIO Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I saw it as well. I thought it was great. Never saw the original, but it has to be darn good to be better than this one. I was surprised by the humor throughout the movie too. I didn't expect to laugh much. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 28, 2010 Super User Posted December 28, 2010 My wife saw it yesterday and she felt Jeff bridges was fantastic Couldn't make up her mind as who was better Jeff Bridges or Christian Bale in the "Fighter ", for best actor. Quote

I saw The Fighter as well. I think Bale did a better job than Bridges, but they both did great. If you see the Ward brothers in real life, then see what Bale did to imitate Dicky, it's insane. Back to True Grit. Did anyone understand why the short guy who made the noises was in the movie? Quote
brushhoggin Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 saw it last night. supposedly its different than the original. GREAT movie. The Cohen brothers never really make a bad one though. OHIO that was the wild card character. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 The original True Grit is airing on the AMC channel this Saturday. Team PAMPERS should watch it. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I've seen the original so many times it is unreal. Rooster Cogburn (film) is good to cause katherine Hepburn and John Wayne had so much chemistry in the movie. But again the new True Grit was great different but great. (couldn't stop thinking of big lebowski tho) Quote
s13john Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I thought it was great. But your right if cogbrn drank white Russians it would have been rooster lebowski. Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I thought it was great. But your right if cogbrn drank white Russians it would have been rooster lebowski. And Donny pops out of no where and Lucky Ned Pepper and gang were Nihilist Quote
bigfruits Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 The Cohen brothers never really make a bad one though. thier only failure, IMO, is Brad Pitt in "Burn After Reading". he over acts the idiot role and almost ruined the movie for me. edit: saw "True Grit" last night. if i had a parasitic twin id give it 4 thumbs up. need to watch it again with subtitles to catch some of the dialog! YES..... best part was when he was shot in the head by George Clooney Quote
MOBASS Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Coen Brothers are great. Watched Fargo two weeks ago and No Country for Old Men for probably the tenth time tonight. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 It was good. Although in my opinion, 3:10 to Yuma was better (I know they're different...but both are still westerns). Quote
Hamby Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 My dad gets PO'd every time he sees the trailer on TV. He keeps complaining about how they can't remake a movie like that. He's a horrible movie critic though. He likes some odd movies, and hates many. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 It's great! Jeff Bridges did a fantastic job! Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 I saw it for the second time with my dad the other day. I love it and I was very pleased to hear that he thought it was great as well. Quote
Milton Waddams Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Watched it last week, ajnd really liked it. I was afraid that it would be so far off from the original as to ruin it. It actually follows the book better than the original and was very well made. Bridges plays Cogburn differently, but how can you really compare Wayne and Bridges? Thought for a second Robert Duvall was playing Ned Pepper again. I could have gone the rest of my life without hearing about Burn After Reading, that movie should have been burnt after filming. I agree the only good part in the whole thing is Pitt getting shot in the head. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 18, 2011 Super User Posted January 18, 2011 Ok, here's my take on the remake. It SUCKED! Bridges played a good role , but he didn't deliver his lines as well as Wayne. Had I never seen the original then I'd give Bridges a thumbs up. Matt Damon absolutely sucked, even if his character wasn't compared to Campbell. Mattie Ross was much prettier than the original, but I believe the original was a better actress. I put the remake Mattie in the same category as Bridges. Ned Pepper did a good job. The story line was the same as the original, just different scenes. The opening dragged on and IMO opinion spoiled the rest of the movie. I'd rate this movie, without comparing it to the original, 2.5 out of 5 stars. If comparing to the original, then I would give it 1 out 5 stars. Wayne won his 1st Oscar for the original. I don't see the remake winning anything. By the way, I never realized Barbara had such a nice set. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=video&cd=1&ved=0CDQQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D7qQhODwivLU&rct=j&q=john%20wayne%20true%20grit&ei=Lvc0TZOVAcb_lgeetO2RBw&usg=AFQjCNHo-SdoA4trbYT3wVNeoSZcF2Q7mA&cad=rja Quote
