Neighbors

We've been in our house for about 20 years now.

Yesterday I went out to start digging out from the snow to find my next door neighbor had done a sizeable chunk of my property with his snowblower. This is nothing new as I've done the same for him and have cut his grass in the summer while they were away on vacation. We keep an eye on each others property when the other is away, grab their mail, things like that.

You can't put a price on something like that. We've had a few flakes here and there on the block over the years but (thank God) I've never come home to find news vans on the street.

Do you have good neighbors or are you unfortunate enough to live next to the Mansons ? ;D I couldn't imagine living next to a hellhole, although I realize some do.

My neighbors are like my second parents. Good and bad haha.

When my parents go out of town they check in on me and sometimes invite me for dinner. Also they keep an eye on me if I leave the house pass curfew........ Too many times have I gone outside just to see Mrs. Pam sitting outside in a lawn chair asking me "where are you going" and me going back in the house and shutting the garage.

For 15 years I lived next to gang hooligans ....They did every imaginable thing to tick us off. We returned the favor as well. This was in Texas growing up.Drive by shooting wasn't uncommon through the night over there.I'll say this though it was funny watching them do all kinds of stupid crap when the cops were over there.My personal favorite was watching them hold their pants up trying to run the the police.Entertaining to say the least.Somebody always got a cop ride back to jail.

It went so far that they ended up putting a $10,000 hit on my head. It ain't fun when I gotta walk home with a buddy who's carrying his dad's .357 Mag.

Been pretty quiet here in MI....everybody seems to keep to themselves here. If I see somebody in need of some help I won't hesitate to help them.Ain't too bad here.

I live on a corner, so I only have one neighbor.  I couldn't have asked for better neighbors.  They are very friendly and very generous.  We help each other out all the time.  Back in May my wife gave birth to our son.  The day we came home from the hospital, my neighbor was cutting my grass.  He later told me he has a new appreciation for his yard.  It takes me close to 2 hours to cut my grass and it takes him maybe an hour to do his.  Him and his wife are just awesome.  I am happy to be their neighbor.

I live in an area that is half large farms mixed in with rural residential, so I enjoy half and try my level best to ignore the others.

Our square mile section has two fairly large dairy farms and you couldn't ask for better neighbors. Several times, I have walked cows home that got out of the enclosures, and have been allowed to hunt their properties whenever I want. I have helped with haying and milking when the need arose, and have enjoyed more than my fair share of fresh garden veggies in return.

And then we have the neighbors that moved from the big city into to the house just to the south of us a few years ago. Within a month, the wife was passing around a petition because the cows made too much noise, and smelled. She really doesn't seem to happy that she and the cows are still next door to each other after a couple of years.

Across the street we had out of town parents buy that home to rent out to their college age son and his buddies. Fortunately the parties were so long, loud, and frequent enough that the kid was kicked out of school in less than a year.

I now own a dog that barks when someone comes onto our property. Aside from the two farmers that actually know how friendly our Blue Heeler can be, we just let her bark!

I have lived on the same intersection out in the country my whole life with the same neighbors in tow.  Same here Bill, A squabble once in a blue moon but nothing that ever kept us from being friends and neighbors.  As kids, all the adults in the area let us know when we needed to straighten up, give us the thumbs up when we had it coming....one big extended family

Through the years there has always been  the helping hand, advice, looking out for the neighbors property, mutual interests and more.  Every once in a while comes the practical joke that leaves you cynical of all the neighbors that smile at you.

  Earlier this year I came home after a pretty decent snow fall to a 7' bank that was plowed right in front of my overhead garage door with my plow truck inside!  After a lot of ribbing and laughing the next door guy came over and plowed it out but no one ever admitted to the crime. ;D ;D

Most of my neighbors suck with the exception of a few. They are really stuck up and didn't put up with much of my crap when I lived at home.

When I was younger, me and my friends would do what young kids do, ding dong ditch and tp houses. Nothing too big.

All the neighbors would freak out and phone calls and emails would be made saying that there were suspicious people walking around at night terrorizing houses.

They over reacted like nothing else. You couldn't even walk on the wrong side of the street without getting yelled at be some people.

It probably didn't help that my next door neighbor was the head of the Home Owner's Association, or the fact that my parents weren't involved in the meetings.

Actually, I have some neighbors that are "interesting" to say the least.

I live in a middle-upper class neighborhood, and my family and I have yet to come up with an explanation as to how our lovely little neighborhood has come to this.

To our left are major drug addicts, only fueled by the father, the largest enabler in the world, who funds their addiction with his profession, which is a lawyer. The other day the oldest son (I kid you not) was "swiffering" his front yard, while wearing a doormat around his waist, and an armadillo helmet. Yes, the type from Dukes of Hazzard.

Across the street lives the ex-con rapist along with his wife, a former spouse to another man for TWENTY-SEVEN years. She met him in a prison ministry group, and left her entire family for him. No joke.

I've lived in my house for 8 years and don't even know my neighbors name. In fact, I think I hate them. They don't fish, they listen to crap music (that you can hear two blocks away), they're ugly as heck, and they drive like arsholes.

I got the best neighbors in the world, none.  I can't see any of my neighbor's houses.  I only have 10 acres but the trees block the view.

All great neighbors in my subdivision...but then down the street they put up hud multi family housing.  Some of them are not so wonderful some of the time, and some of them are great.

On our little cul-de-sac we have great neighbors, mostly older retired folks, very friendly except for one widow, she just keeps to herself but causes no problems.

We have a similar deal as the OP with our next door neighbors except they are @ 80 years old so we mow their lawn and shovel when it snows. He has a huge organic garden in the back yard and my roommate has full access, she helps him tend it and we get free veggies. It's neat to come home and see 6 big bright tomatoes on our front bench. One thing the old guy still gets out to do is deer hunting, last year he gave us an entire deer, processed, packaged and ready for the freezer. Thats the best payment I ever got for mowing a yard!

Some nerve she had-moving near a dairy farm and then complaining about mooing (I assume that's the noice being complained about) and the smell! Besides, a dairy farm smells like roses compaired to a hog farm.  On that subject, however, if I had a house in the country and a hog confinement system was built just upwind of me, you bet I'd complain.

All my neighbors are terrific.  Couldn't ask for much better.

2 guys next door are good to us, they own a tackle shop so i get free and discounted bait when salmon/steelhead and ice fishing. the other there is a an older couple who lets us use their inground pool in return for me doing chores around the yard, doing their driveway in the winter and always help to fix his rotten fence that he wont replace

I bought my grandparents house after they passed, so my neighbor's have known me since I was a little kid making bike jumps in the alley.  It's nice because they look out for my bassboat when I'm not home.  I have to park it outside under tarps.

Mostly farms and older people around me.  Everything is always quiet except for the occasional cow moo.

Have had pretty good neighbors except for the folks behind me. City just bought the house next to me for some sort of Habitat for Humanity wanna be program. So we shall see if my luck holds up.
