NateFollmer Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Meh.... Apple needs to do some serious renovations before I'll consider even looking at it. They don't listen to their users, it's their way or no way, and they always think they have a superior product that no one can touch and if someone makes something better they sue... If you ask me, Verizon would be better off with a good hold on the android market and dump the Iphone... But that won't happen : Quote
GTrombly Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 Apple is losing customers because at&t is terrible. So Apple will make more money and Verizon will get millions of new customers. At&t should go out of business. Quote
GTrombly Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 People will want the iphone 5. Just check out this video. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 More than happy with my Droid II. Quote
GTrombly Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 I am sure a lot of people are happy with their androids but I know people will be trading them in for an iphone. People are just crazy about iphones and I think android wouldn't be doing as well if the iphone was available for multiple carriers. Quote
Nibbles Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I'm with RLR on this one. More than happy with my Droid 2. Quote
NateFollmer Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 That's another thing apple needs to learn from Android... Open the OS. Phone developers can take android and make their own version of the OS. They also need to open the market up and stop being so picky about who can and can't make apps. I realize the open OS doesn't seen like it matters since apple makes the hardware, but they'd be better off letting others make phones with their OS. Blackberry could benefit from it for example. Their hardware is always spot on, but their software is killing them. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Blackberry could benefit from it for example. Their hardware is always spot on, but their software is killing them. I've always used RIM phones, but lately they're starting to be frustrating. I'd kill for this. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 I'm banking on fact if iPhone soars in popularity at Verizon the price of andriod will go down. My phone available for an upgrade soon, but I won't be purchasing a smart phone. I guess I'll stick to my simple phone for few more months or another year. Quote
GTrombly Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 I don't think the price will go down because they're not going to be selling as much. Steve Jobs pretty much attacked android about their open OS. Saying it was sloppy and unprofessional. I'm not saying one is better but the android market is not very organized last time i saw it. Quote
NateFollmer Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The great thing about the android market is that, for the most part, its controlled by users. If an app is broken or complete trash, you aren't going to see it for long. Android development is freakin' simple too. Never programmed? Use googles app builder and you can make your app without writing a single line of code. Don't get me wrong, the Iphone is pretty cool. Its just created by an arrogant SOB Quote
GTrombly Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 I think that was a lot of Jobs problem, anyone can create crappy apps. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 I have a quick question, I think Nate you could answer it well, I know you know phones. Say, mid-way through my phone contract, I just really dont like my phone, do I have to wait until my 2-year contract expires to get a new phone? Or is there an upgrade program of some sort? I have Verizon by the way. Quote

I have Verizon by the way. If you are the main # on the account you can usually upgrade after 1 year. If not most likely have to wait it out or pay full price. I used to be a verizon vip which meant i could switch anytime but they got rid of the program. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 Is it possible to buy a verizon capable phone off of ebay, and then have then switch my service to the new phone? Quote
OHIO Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Is it possible to buy a verizon capable phone off of ebay, and then have then switch my service to the new phone? Yes. I am pretty sure you can do it online too. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 Cool, thanks guys! Quote
GTrombly Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 You can switch the phones online yourself. They will probably charge you in the store. Quote
NateFollmer Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 You can change to any Verizon phone at any time. Take the new phone you want to use, dial *228 (call that number) Select Option 1 It will ask for your number and the last 4 of the account holders SSN or account password. It then programs your phone and your done! Quote
nick76 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I agree with you guys that the iPhone will be purchased for brand name alone. Many will want it just because they can have it. I love my Samsung Fascinate and would think twice about leaving Android based phones for anything else right now. The open source code allows the bugs to be worked out by the end-users/ developers. Right now Samsung/Verizon are in a big ticking match with my phone over who is doing what with the Froyo update. The phone is great, don't get me wrong, but there are a few simple things like GPS issues that Froyo will fix along with speed and battery life. If this were an Apple phone we all would be screwed until they get off there arses to fix it. This phone could be fixed with a simple ROM release if they would just do it. Quote
