Jaheff Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I'll start by saying I live in San Diego, I'm not a Charger fan per say, but would like them to do well for the city. At the beginning of the year at a Monday Night Game, I got in an argument with some of my Sisters friends that the chargers wouldn't make the Super Bowl with Rivers. My argument is that rivers is not a Leader, and they had a better chance with Breez. My example is last year, the night before the playoff game, a bunch of the Chargers players were out at a strip club till 2am. In my opinion players that respected their QB (leader), wouldn't do that.I just couldn't see Drew's, Mannings, or Montana's players doing that to them. I Know they had the #1 offence and the #1 Defence, and still didn't make the playoffs.Stats only get ya so far. What's your opinion on the Chargers? Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 I think they suck at picking coaches, and their players lack of discipline is a direct result of that. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 What's your opinion on the Chargers? Chokers, plain and simple. One more thing: Chargers management should feel stupid for getting rid of Schottenheimer to hire Norv Turner. Marty's playoff record isn't a true indicator of his overall coaching ability....and when you do look at his playoff record, he's due for some big wins. ;D Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 they did the right thing firing schottenheimer, but turner was not a good replacement. They both choke, proven chokers. the chargers need a hungry young coach who will discipline the team, which is a good tam, but mistake prone and too up and down. Quote
frogtog Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 We will take Rivers back anytime. I watched those Panthers yesterday and they were so bad the Falcons didn't even have to tackle them, they would run down to the goal line and just fall down own their on. Rivers was a good QB at NCSU. Of course a QB is no good if the gut you are throwing to can't catch. :-/ Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 rivers is not the issue. all great teams have 2 things; a great qb and a great coach. rivers is a verrry good qb, turner and schottenheimer are 2 verrry bad coaches. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 turner and schottenheimer are 2 verrry bad coaches. Nah, Schottenheimer's not a bad coach. His playoff record just drags him down. It's all Elway's fault. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted January 3, 2011 Super User Posted January 3, 2011 the playoffs are all that matters, and he is not good in the playoffs. Quote
Jake. Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I'm a die-hard Chargers fan. Philip Rivers is not the problem. With the talent they have, a 9-7 record is unacceptable. AJ Smith, the GM, makes poor personnel decisions. He should have swallowed his pride and paid Marcus McNeill and Vincent Jackson instead of forcing them to hold out for most of the season. Norv Turner is a mediocre coach at best and isn't authoritative enough for a roster loaded with talented players. Smith and Turner need to go if the Chargers want real success. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 Just like the Browns , bad management team. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 What pops out at me is the fact that were 9 -7 and if I'm reading the final team rankings correctly, they were the #1 ranked team in both total offense and total defense and still missed the play-offs. How do you do that? My guess is that the coach didn't have his team prepared week in and week out. They lost a lot of games making mental mistakes this year. Quote
