crankbait2009 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 hi all. Hope everyone had an awesome christmas.....Sants was quite nice to me this year!! one of the gifts i did receive was the new Rapala fishing game for PS3. i played that game for 4 hours straight last night. to me, it was quite fun. really enjoy it! heres the question. can you actually learn from a game any fishing techniques? are any of the strategies you have to use in the game worth anything in real life fishing? i am new to fishing (2 years) and still am trying to learn whats what and how to's. is a video game really a decent tool for learning how to work your lure? will it give you a good idea of what to do? (on a side note, what is "dead sticking"? in the game while im throwing out a lure, i can pick a few actions id like to use to change up the lure presentation. i pick, dead sticking and see what it does but i dont understand what it means.) Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 26, 2010 Super User Posted December 26, 2010 I wouldn't think you could learn anything from a video game. Watching a good fishing show can teach you a little bit, but nothing beats time on the water. Dead sticking: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1160010382 Quote
intheweeds Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I have that game. I don't think you can learn much from it but it sure is fun when the water is hard, like it is around here. I agree with Hookemdown, fishing shows and time on the water are better. This site is great also. I have learned so much from all the BR members. Enjoy the game though. It is one of the best fishing games out there. IMO Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 26, 2010 Super User Posted December 26, 2010 Trick question ? Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted December 26, 2010 Super User Posted December 26, 2010 Well he has learned what dead sticking is because of the game, so the answer is yes you can learn from it....... ;D Quote
VABassin'14 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Im not sure if you can learn much from it or not, but I love the game. Quote
NateFollmer Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I have yet to play a fishing game where the fish actually adapt to conditions like they do in real life (or even act half like they should). In just about every fishing game you can find that 1 lure that works anytime, anywhere, and just catch like crazy. I see why they do this though, they don't want to target just the hardcore anglers, they are trying to make it easy for ANYONE to play. They need to make a game that has the best of both worlds. Oh, and don't even try Kevin Van Dam's fishing game... It is an absolute pile of crap! He should get his name off that game ASAP Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 27, 2010 Super User Posted December 27, 2010 Nope, I don 't think that you can learn how to fish from a fishing video game, I do know that if you know how to fish you can play the video game a lot better, and within video games there are from real crap to very good ones, Rapala 's fishing game is in the middle. My favorite: Sefa Bass Fishing Duel. So how good can you be, well yo be the judge, that big in that game as hard to find and catch as it is in real life: Quote
wisconsin heat Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 i had a game called "Top Angler" and that game was exxtremely fun! all the lures did exactly what they were supposed to do the only thing is that in every fishing game you can catch a fish on a crankbait without it hitting anythig Quote
