Should the NFC West champion be allowed into the playoffs? I know they will, but come on, its ridiculous that better NFC teams will be passed up for a Division chump, I mean champ!

It's going to happen but it really sucks for whoever it is that gets left out. I believe the Patriots got left out a couple years back with 11 wins.

The entire NFC needs to be realigned in my opinion....stuff like that shouldn't happen. To get in the playoffs a team should at least be 1 game above .500.

maybe it should be the top teams by record and if you win the division you need a good record. the pats got left out the year brady went down with the knee injury, they came in 2nd in the afc east and their record didnt justify a wild card so they stayed home. not quite the same situation.

I think it was the same situation. I'd have to look back but it seems like they were 2 games better than a division winner (forgot exactly who and which division) that got in.

i see what your saying, yes they might have been better than a division winner, I cant remember, but there was no division winner with a losing record. I remember a couple of 9-7 teams making it in, the cards of a couple years ago, but never a losing record.

Well, whichever way it happened was BS.

So get rid of the divisions and go with the top winning percentages for the play-offs. Problem solved.

There is just one hang-up , the owners.

2 years ago, a lot of people thought the Cardinals didn't "deserve" to be in the playoffs because they had the worst record of all the playoff teams, worse than other "more deserving teams" that didn't make the playoffs.  They then beat every "better" team on their way to the Superbowl, and nearly won that.

I believe a few years before that, the Stealers had a poor record going into the playoffs, and most people were "certain" they'd be one and out.  Instead, they beat all the "better" teams on their way to a Superbowl win.

It just goes to prove that anything can happen in the playoffs; and every team that makes it into the playoffs, has earned it.

Not all divisions are equal in talent, hypothetically a team with a 12- 4 record may not be better than a team with a 9-7 from another division.  Having only teams with the best records in the playoffs may not improve the quality of the games.  I think the system is fine with the way it is, wildcard births are strictly for revenue, but the games are entertaining.

I'd expect no less from a Seattle Seahawks fan.  ;D

Your "Stealers" and "Faux News" spellings are particularly humorous to me today.

You're so clever... ;D

My father and I were talking about this a few days ago.  I'd much rather see teams get put into the playoffs based solely on their records.  Similar to how the NBA seeding works.

Thanks Glenn.

Better luck next year Cardinals.

Go for 7 Steelers!

I hate to knock your Steelers as I root for them quite often but one of the 6 SB wins was pretty bogus.  I don't know what the officials were drinking or taking when the Steelers played the Seahawks but the officating definitely affected the outcome of that game in the Steelers favor.  And by the way, I was for the Steelers.

The way I see it, if you make it under the current rules you earned it.  All teams have to play under the same rules.  This is similar to the debate about the Angler of the Year.  You earn your place in the playoffs in either one based on the rules by which everyone must abide, though I have to agree that the NFC West is producing some ugly records this year.

For the record, I really hope the 'Hawks DON'T make the playoffs this year.  They're a lousy team in need of a good draft pick.  Making it into the playoffs this year doesn't help them in the long run.

Lessee....the team with the worst record in the NFC West has beat the Steelers, Saints, and Cowboys this year.  ::)
