What are some of your guys's Christmas traditions? (Or other winter holidays if you aren't Christian or dont celebrate Christmas)

One of mine is something me and my dad do every year. After we've bought each other the gifts we will be giving, we bother each other about hints. For every one hint I give him, he gives me one and vise versa. This usually starts around the 15th and continues until Christmas Morning.

Another one I think is more common is that every year someone in the family is "Santa" and passes out a present for every one to open. We all open them and "ooh and Ahh" and then Santa passes out the next round.

We also have a huge family party Christmas Eve at my Grandparents house every year with my whole dad's side of the family. The party is really fun though because my grandparents are so young, they're 50 but I wont go into detail.

Another thing we do is, Every one in my family gets a pair of pajama pants to sleep in the night before Christmas, and when me and my sister wake up, we get to see what santa left in our stockings without my parents. I think they just let us see whats in our stocking without asking because they dont want us to wake them up  ::)

What are your guys's traditions, if any, for the Holidays?

My folks always had a log with four candles in it.  Each night in the days before Christmas we would light them and let them burn for a bit.  On Christmas eve we let them burn all the way down.  My dad gave me one a few years back so I can do the same.  On Christmas morning we were allowed to see what we got in our stockings, and any unwrapped gifts Santa brought.  But nothing else until after we ate breakfast AND cleaned up all the dishes and such.  It was torture!!  Then we could get into the rest of the gifts.  Now living on my own we have incorporated a few of my wifes families traditions into the mix.  Opening one small gift on Christmas Eve is one of them.  Also having an angel as a tree topper is another, my family always had a star.  Some of my best childhood memories involve Christmas traditions.

We also do the Angel on top because of my mom's side.

I remember last year when I had to do the tree by myself, I put Troy Aikman atop the tree, which my mom didn't like so much  ;D

I remember last year when I had to do the tree by myself, I put Troy Aikman atop the tree, which my mom didn't like so much ;D

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor.. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Not a lot of people know this.

My family wakes up early every Christmas (like 3AM). We have a competition to see who can wake up the earliest.

I always lose, but I don't mind it much.

We usually always have it at my grandma's house, but this year we are doing it at my parents' house for some reason.

Not too many big traditions though like some people.

Call me Ebenezer.

I seem to have a developing "tradition". It started years ago, and with each passing year, the "thank goodness it's over" sigh becomes more emphatic.

We've had the family Christmas dinner for over twenty years. Since my wife has retired there is less stress, but the years still take their toll.

All of our nephews, nieces, and our two girls are all in their 30s and 40s, but no one has stepped forward to take over the dinner obligation.

Having said the above, I'll leave you with this final thought.

A very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to all.

Bah Humbug.

As much as I enjoy watching my daughters open up presents, I can't wait for Christmas to end.  I hate how it gets jammed down your throat the second Thanksgiving ends.

That being said, my tradition is to eat.  A lot.

I made the mistake of making homemade raviolis one year for Christmas dinner and every year since I get asked to make the ravs. I just made a hundred of them for the 15th year!... :)

Enjoy your holiday's all!

When our girls were younger we would arrange to have Santa come by on the fire truck and come in to see them. He would have a small gift for each of them. All it took was a visit to the firehouse with the gifts and our address. It didn't hurt that I usually had a gift for the firemen for when they got done their rounds

Homemade raviolis mmmmm.... I just got through making 6 lbs. of meatballs.

We got to open 1 present that my parents picked out. Now we get to drive all over the place so everyone can see the baby. Thinking about having dinner at my place, little more work but less hassle than running around.

About as close to a tradition that I even want to remember came about when our oldest son was born on December 24th!

Within a few years, he realized that he was getting the short end of the stick so to speak, because everybody got presents on his birthday.  So unlike the rest of his siblings, he headed out to the store on Christmas Eve to buy whatever he chose for a birthday present (price was controlled).  None of the other kids got this treatment, ever.

When he got older, he saved up a bunch of his own money and added it to what I was willing to spend.  Wow, you should have seen his brothers and sisters howl when he came home with something three times bigger than anything they had gotten.   ;D
