10 years ago I moved to NC and got back into fishing. I hit Linville river, Wilson creek, and numerous other streams when the trout bug bit. I fished the banks of Lake Wylie for a year until I got a jon boat and customized it, then moved on to a tracker PT 175txw.

All the time, my gramps went with me. I saw him fall into Linville so many times and in so many ways I nearly soiled myself laughing. Wrestling fish onto the bank (literally) and squaring off with them cause getting them into the net would be way too easy.

From sitting on the lake in my jon before it was customized getting our legs burned on the metal, to styling in the Tracker we hit about every cove that lake offers. Caught about every species on the lake and shared more good times and stories than I could fit in a book.

Today he lies in a Hospice bed and after years of good times I now measure my time with him minute by minute. Stupid how we take the other times for granted but when you get out on your lake next time, and look out at the fellow with you and really take a second to enjoy the time you have. Sooner or later it will be gone and the memories are what you got left.

Sorry about your grandpa.

I just lost a good friend, club member, and fishing buddy two weeks ago. Cancer took him. All of the guys miss him.

There is a lot of truth to the post you just made. I'm sorry that you have to go through this tough time. It is never easy watching someone you love and cherish being taken from you. I have experienced it way to may times. I have found that it is better to cry tears of happiness remembering the fond memories you have , rather than cry tears of sorrow for the memories you will never get to make.

My prayers are with you and your family during this tough time.

Well put, Bass Ninja.

Sorry you have to go through that, Starr.

People in general really need to learn to appreciate the smaller things in life more, myself included.  Just spending time with a good friend or family member should always be treated as something special.  Enjoy each day to the fullest.  You never know when your time is coming.

I am very sorry about the loss that you and your family are experiencing.

All I can say is keep those memories alive. My father was just telling me the stories about him fishing with the grandpa I never knew. They were incredible to hear. I had no idea my family was so involved in fishing.

Thanks guys. It is bittersweet for me. I am going to miss him. Every time I step on the boat, or cast into a stream and even more so with how much he visited my home and the time he spent with our kids. The endless hours of stories of his youth and my father and aunts and uncles growing up. I have been truly blessed to have him.

For him though there is no downside, I know when he opens his eyes after this life, he will be reunited with my grandmother who passed 10+ years ago and my Aunt who left us 2 years ago. He will be so overjoyed, it is hard to imagine. And I know I will meet him again, it is hopefully going to be a long time from now but I will see him again.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your loved ones.

Your story brought back memories of fishing with my grandfather and I thank you for that.
