2010 Christmas Concert, please watch

Every year our music department has a Christmas concert which includes our chorus, guitar, orchestra, symphonic band and concert band. At the end, as part of the tradition, we all do a piece called Russian Christmas Music by Alfred Reed.

Please watch this video. I play tuba in the symphonic band, and I kid you not this song makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Every time we play it. Our tuba section has designated spots in the song where each one of us can stop playing for a couple seconds and just take it in. If you were in the audience or actually playing or singing the music, you would understand, but I think this video does it a good bit of justice. The chorus is not in the picture, but is surrounding the entire audience.

My oldest daughter plays flute. Her middle school Christmas concert is next week.

It's cool to see how young musicians progress from grade school on through high school.

A powerful piece of music performed very well. My wife and I sang with community choral groups for years. Many times I have experienced that feeling you describe, knowing that what is happening is greater than the sum of its parts. Great music performed well is transcendental; it takes us beyond the ordinary or common to a higher place. Well done G.

KMac couldn't have said it any better.  I played trumpet from grade school through college, and played in several similar performances.  So I can certainly appreciate the hours of work and effort- as well as talent - that goes behind this performance.
