Even though both teams are really down on the totem pole right now:

Miami vs. Notre Dame is a really intriguing game.  An old rivalry renewed.

I'm actually interested in watching the BCS title game this year.  That should be really fun to watch.

I agree about the title game!  It should be a 100 mph offensive explosion!  Finally, the BCS worked.

Bummed about Boise St. I wanted to see them play an SEC team and get destroyed.

Doubtful.  See 2008 Sugar Bowl.  A poor lowly "Mountain West" team could never compete with the mighty SEC could they?

Worked? This is the perfect year for the BCS to have a +1. TCU plays at Oregon, winner gets Auburn. Thats the only way to do it when you have 3 undefeated teams. TCU got left out in the cold. Not sure if they could hang with either one or not but they are undefeated just like 1 and 2.

I think Auburn squeaks by Oregon in the title game.

2008 Sugar Bowl:

Georgia 41, Hawaii 10

or are you talking about 2009 when Utah beat Alabama?

Although I'm probably rooting for the opposite team as him, I'm with the Addict on this one. ND vs. Miami. Catholics vs. Convicts. Great matchup by the way. Should prove to be a close game.

GO IRISH!!

I understand what you are getting at, but if Boise had made that chip shot of a kick against Nevada then there would be 2 unbeatens, then what?

I graduated from VT and IF we had won against Boise, knocked out JMU (embarrising loss) then would we have gotten an invite to the championship game?  No, Auburn and Oregon are the two best teams in college football as of right now.

That's irrelevant. It didnt happen. If it had happened, there still should be a +1. They would just have to pair up 1-4 some way and then the winners play.

Probably not because the ACC is so weak, nonetheless, with a +1 they would get a chance to prove themselves.

Of the Pac10 teams only 6 of the 10 are .500 or better overall with 2 of those 6 only being 6-6....where the ACC has 9 of 12 teams at .500 or better. So you never know, I sure wish VT had closed the deal on Boise and buried JMU like they were supposed to.

By the way, I still think the BCS is seriously flawed and until college football figures out a better system without losing the money that the BCS gives up, sadly, nothing is going to change. It's all about the mighty $$.

Thanks for making the point about the Pac 10 vs. ACC record wise. A lot of people do not mention that. Yeah, VT should have closed it out against BSU and JMU, but you are right we did not and it is irrevelant.

I could see a 8 team playoff similar to March Madness, but with NIT parameters. Meaning, the higher seed team gets the home game to the lower seed team. But, not sure universities would go for that considering that would mean an uneven amount of home games for different teams (Just a reason I could see complained about.) and less ticket sale $$.  Then, the championship game nuetral sight, but the flaw with that is what happens to the bowl games, there will not be any and my idea is dead there.

The thing I do not like about the plus 1 game is, that is telling me the 3rd place team would have beaten the 2nd place (losing team) if #1 & #2 play. I would like to see TCU beat Auburn or Oregon in this system. No disrespect to TCU, I watched them make Utah look like a JV team in that game. They are good, but doubt they have the bench to handle an Auburn or Oregon.

Eric, care to make a little friendly wager?  Like maybe a new LC bait or something?  Just for fun.

If a bracket was set up of say 16 teams.. The "Final Four" would be made up of 3 possibly 4 SEC West teams. lol

Posted

I really don't see how a playoff would solve anything. If there was an eight team playoff, all you've really done is push the burden of who gets left out from number three to number nine. This year, that would be #9 (BCS) Michigan State who has a better record than #7 Oklahoma and #8 Arkansas. If we used the coaches poll instead of the BCS, it would get even more complicated since Oklahoma and Arkansas are tied for #8. So who gets left out?

The rose bowl. I know I am a Badgers fan. But I heard TCU has been favored to win.

I have a feeling the bcs championship game will be a blow out. I am not a auburn fan. But the ducks can't hold a candle to them. If its not a blow out it would shock me.

Posted

I don't think it will be a total blowout. Oregon has an explosive offense, and they will find a way to put some points on the board.

My prediction:

Auburn 35 - Oregon 24
