What was cool about this is it was caught on Wed or Thurs, and the word got out, and It was all over the local news. Anglers drove as far as LA just to see a peice of history. Here's the fish and angler.. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 6, 2010 Super User Posted December 6, 2010 That's a lot of tuna steaks right there. Man, what a fight that must have been! Quote
Jaheff Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 So I did some research on the line..It's called soft steel made by a company called Fox. It's mono, I can only find it in the UK. They do make line in less pound test for Bass fishing. Who's gonna be the ginnie pig? Quote
Sfritr Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 MMMMmmmmmmmmm Herb encrusted, seared to a Rare and served with wasabi and soy sauce over Wild rice..... Quote
scrutch Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Anybody know what that fish is worth to a Japanese sushi chef? When I was in Hawaii, They talked about it a lot. The Charter captains all said that if you caught a tuna, they'd radio to shore and when you got in, there would be a half-dozen Sushi chef's there to divide up your catch and pay you for it. I don't remember how much it was, but it was a sick amount of money. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted December 7, 2010 Super User Posted December 7, 2010 Probably anywhere from 75 to 100 grand. Give or take a few thousand. Big tuna are worth big...big bucks. Quote
Jaheff Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Here's a link to the weigh in. It was takin sideways, but it's the only vid out there. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted December 7, 2010 Super User Posted December 7, 2010 Anyone every watch that show on Discovery called "Life on the Line?" Its about long-liners and how they fish for swordfish, anyway every once and a while they catch a tuna and the fisherman start jumping up and down because of money it fetches the crew. I saw an episode where they actually rate the Tuna and base price per pound on it not just overall weight of fish. Interesting stuff. Quote

There are very very very strict guidelines on the preparation of sashimi grade tuna after being caught. http://wwwx.spc.int/coastfish/Fishing/Sashimi_E/Sashimi.pdf Quote

Jaheff Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Wow,a fishing feat like this and all ya talk about is the price of the meat? The price of the meat is chump change compared to what all involved are gonna get now. Mike Livingston is a retired, educated man and has instantly become the spokesman for Penn, power pro, Owner hooks, and Cal sheets ( Cal's drag grease) to name a few. The rod he used was a rod he wrapped himself and can't remember what blank. Quote
