I use the 5 hour energy all the time (like at least one a day), and drink Monsters pretty much every day (the green one). My wife keeps telling me I'm gonna die.

My son's best friends mother is a retired paramedic. Ran a call one day on a 40 year old male, unconscious. Then, dead. Perfectly healthy man. 20 minutes prior to going down, energy drink.

Water , green tea and couple cups of joe.

After my first and hopefully last bout with kidney stones last August, green tea with honey and lemon is my main morning beverage now. Also water with crystallized lime. My doctor swears by citric acid to keep kidneys running smooth.

Sugar in excessive amounts is a proven havoc to reckon with. No wonder diabetes is on such a rampage.

I had to back off the energy drinks a couple of years ago. I was caffeine and sugar hooked. I would drink two big cups of coffee and an energy drink within couple of hours afters. Head home with another energy drink and more coffee when got home. I was full of jitters and shakes all the time. I was drinking the Monsters, Red Bulls, Java and Kronik. I still drink my coffee which more than I should but that really seems to be a habit I have a hard time trying to break. Still alot but no where what I was drinking. I never tried the 5 hour energy.

Cuban Coffee

Occasionally a 5 Hour Energy

Once in a blue moon a Red Bull (red bull + vodka is a different story)

Fishing during the night I like Monster MIXXD, the purple printed can, grape flavor.

I like some of them but they have little to no effect on me.  They don't make me jittery or give me palpitations but the do seem to help wake me up but I have drank them before bed and fall right to sleep.  My favorites are NOS, Rockstar Juiced, Full Throttle Red Berry and Blue Agave, Bawls, and there was one from Super America called Shock Wave.  I absolutely hate Red Bull, tastes like it came straight from the bull.  I had a Monster shot the other day and within 10 minutes had a terrible headache and became dizzy and I am in no way sensitive to caffeine....never again will I use a concentrated shot.

I used to drink those Orange Monster's all the time. Then 1 day, my heart started beating funny, I got a massive headache REALLY quickly and I had to sit down for awhile. I stopped drinking them right after that happened and never had a problem since.

I had the same issue minus the headache. Was pulling some loooong hours at work and was drinkin them pretty regularly to get through the days. The one morning, I got the irregular heartbeat and haven't touched them since then.

Like Hammer4, I loved the taste of them too.

I drink about 3 a year!  Rockstar juiced (purple can) for the days where I work from 7a-11:30p!  Other than that its a strict diet of Dr. Pepper, Sweet tea or water! LOL

5 hr energy is the only one I've found that does anything for me. It's also really low on sugar/calories, which is a big bonus. I have one when I am particularly drowsy, or I want to go for a run but don't have the energy. So only maybe 3 or 4 per month. Otherwise I stick to coffee.

The only downside to 5hr energy -- it makes me have to pee a lot! :) In the summer, I have to drink extra water to make up for it. It also sometimes makes me a tad jittery too, though that doesn't bother me enormously.

I have tried them are and most are horrible.   The best tasting energy drink that actually does its job is.....

POWERTRIP, just about all the drinks they make are great tasting, my favorite is Original Blue and Citrus Powershots.

Has anyone on here tried them? I think they are only in the Buffalo, Greenbay, and North Florida areas.

Tried DNA energy drink the other day and almost gagged

Coffee - black and strong, preferably French roast, although this time of year my wife insists on the Sbux Christmas blend.

As I work 5 minutes from Little Italy if I need a mid-day pick me up I'll nip down for a short double espresso.

I'm from the Buffalo area and I have never seen it.

As far as this discussion goes, I tried a redbull once............no thanks. The best thing I have done to gain more energy has been hitting the gym the last few months. I sleep like a baby at night, and wake up ready to go now. Getting energy from a can full of who knows what seems like a bad idea to me.

I've seen the Powertrip drinks.  They look like a small time operation.  Rubino's Sub Shop in Webster sells them here.

Highly conditioned athletes have dropped dead for many reasons. When it's your time, it's your time.

I get regular Medscape emails, and just the other day I got an article about a study that linked heavy energy drink use with higher levels of alcohol use.  In other words those that reported drinking above average amounts of energy drinks also reported drinking above average amounts of alcohol.  I will post the link, but I think you would need to register to read it.

I think this could mainly be because of the demographic that drink energy drinks.

A lot of them are in college and we all know what happens in college.
