aarogb Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I am just now able to drink these after my heart surgery and I have to say they do seem to keep me focused a little bit better for a little while. I have not tried the 5-Hour Energy, only the Redbull. Do you like them and do you think they help you? Quote
Super User Root beer Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 Back in high school monster original and assault were my favorite. Red Bulls in 8oz can is what I get sometimes. I had a Monster Assault few weeks ago when I got up at 5am to study for an accounting test. It works. lol. I never experience any crashes, only when I'm lacking adequate sleep. Quote
SDoolittle Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 The only time I regularly drank energy drinks was when I was in Iraq. There was a seemingly endless supply of Rip It energy drinks, and I always kept a few in my truck for late night missions. Stateside, I generally stick with coffee. Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 I stick to coke... ..... and Speed... ;D Quote
Simp Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 No and yes. I can count the times I've bought one on one hand. I can count the times I've fully drank one with one finger. The only time I get them is when I'm in serious danger of falling asleep and I must stay up. For example today I drank one completely for the first time. I was going on 4 hours sleep today and I was on the tail end of a 8 hour drive. I couldn't keep my eyes focused on the road. So I stop gulped one down and was able to finish the trip. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 You bet, how do you think I can type so much here? Lol all kidding aside, I only drink them when I need them. If I have to stay up late for something, wake up extremely early, or have to spend all day moving, i'll pick up a Rockstar Energy or Monster Energy. All other times I stick to soda's. Also, i'm not a fan of 5 hour energy. Didn't feel like it gave me much energy, and it gives me on/off tummy aches and heart burn. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 29, 2010 Global Moderator Posted November 29, 2010 I drink at least 2-3 a week, usually Amp or Full Throttle. I love the Full Throttle coffee/energy drink mix. I've tried about everyone I've ever seen at the store. The 180 and Go Fast are both pretty good ones too. 7-11 used to sell one that if you drank it in less than 10 minutes it would make your toes and fingers tingle and make it impossible to sit still lol. I drink them because I get off work at midnight and get to sleep around 1, get up at 4:30 or 5 am to go fishing or hunting and repeat 3 days in a row before I go back to work and I can get some sleep! Quote
Branuss04 Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I used to drink them religiously, but soon found that my body immunized them. I took a long hiatus from them but have started drinking them again. Sugar has a negative effect on me and actually makes me more tired, so I stay away from 99% of the energy drinks. The only two I drink are Rockstar Sugar Free (The white ones) and on occasion I will drink Redlines Redlines are gold if you need a serious rush, but can be deadly if you drink too much. I've never felt so wired after drinking one (Yes I know now you are only supposed to drink 1/2 at a time ) Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 Nope. For some reason most of them smell like cat urine to me. Quote
SDoolittle Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Nope. For some reason most of them smell like cat urine to me. They don't taste much better. Quote
aarogb Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 Nope. For some reason most of them smell like cat urine to me. They don't taste much better. That is true. ;D The Redbull shot bottle that I had tonight is working pretty good. Had it about 8:30 tonight coming back from the Carolina basketball game because I had a paper to write for class that is due tomorrow and I am still going REALLY strong. I am starting to like them. Quote
OHIO Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 The occasional Monster, but they don't really do much for me in terms of energy. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 I use 5 hour energy sometimes, after some research I discovered my old Doctor in Detroit, Jimmy Bragman, developed this drink. I knew him well and I do remember him being a fitness buff and was a tennis pro while working his way thru med school. I bought some energy drink at the dollar store, the ingredients almost match 5 hour energy, I buy those now. Quote
bigfruits Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 espresso and coke for me. i cant stand the taste of redbull for some reason. maybe it has to do with my one time experiment with vodka/redbull a few yrs ago. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 I use the 5 hour energy all the time (like at least one a day), and drink Monsters pretty much every day (the green one). My wife keeps telling me I'm gonna die. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 I use the original energy drink. Ground fresh, brewed fresh Gevalia and Starbucks Quote
NateFollmer Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I used to drink those Orange Monster's all the time. Then 1 day, my heart started beating funny, I got a massive headache REALLY quickly and I had to sit down for awhile. I stopped drinking them right after that happened and never had a problem since. I'm with ghoti on this one. I just got a Keurig machine from my wife and I am loving it FTW: Caribou Blend Coffee by Green Mountain is the best! Quote
bwell Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I'm with ghoti on this one... Whats wrong with coffee? Energy drinks (except 5 hour energy) are full of calories and sugar and taste like crap. My buddy which weighs 120 chugged a full throttle and sat down right away while grabbing his heart (i crap you not). I dont think taking in that much sugar, or calories are good for you... The only thing it will do for you is make you wired and fat... Quote
Super User grimlin Posted November 29, 2010 Super User Posted November 29, 2010 5 hour energy mostly.Occasional a red bull or Venom sometimes. Lately though I'm drinking a lot of coffee. Some reason when it starts turning cold I start drinking twice as much coffee than i usually drink. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Nope no energy drinks for me or caffeine for the most part. I will drink a soda once or twice a week and will usually drink soda when fishing. No Coffee either tastes like dirt. I quit regular caffeine about 6 to 8 months ago and just drink water now. Quote

I quit regular caffeine about 6 to 8 months ago and just drink water now. yep no coffee, soft drinks and nothing but water since 2007, I admit that it takes me about an hour or so longer than most to be fully awake at work in the mornings, but thru these last few years it has made me notice how hyper everyone is on this stuff they drink, its like a Saturday 1 am party going wrong : I feel allot better Did have a 22 year old kid go down at work from taking some kind of RIP work out pills to get beefy, he complained that his heart was racing one moment and then down he went, he only weighed like 150 pounds??? I don't know the thinking of these younger guys and what they're getting taught but he surely didn't need to lose any weight? Quote
I.rar Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 i like redbull.... with my vodka. used to drink em often. not so much anymore. coffee , tea or some soda for me. Quote
brushhoggin Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Guatemalan beans will wake your a s s up. throw in a couple shots of espresso, and it makes 5 hour seem like apple juice Quote
tholmes Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Nope. For some reason most of them smell like cat urine to me. They don't taste much better. X2. I'll stick to strong, black coffee. Tom Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Nope, I agree with Dan. They also give me the shakes and when they wear off I crash. I stick with a good diet and not worry about it. Quote
