Fourbizz needs to be banned from here for 2 weeks or go 3 months without using a swimbait for making the following comment. >:(

"You gotta love the Duke, but he was a crap actor who played in the most cliche and boring movies EVER. Yep, I said it."

Absolutely agree with 4 bizz, John Wane ( aka Marion Morrison ) was not all that good. A legend yes, but in the same league as Bogart, Gable or Flynn?............hardly.

Going into a self imposed exile.

IMHO..

One of John Wayne's best movies was "In Harms Way"

Bogart was always Bogart.

Clark Gable and Erroll Flynn were more versatile actors

How was the character Rick in Casablanca anything like the character he played in African Queen, totally different, as were the characters in Sabrina, or The Caine Mutiny?   True many of his roles he did play the quintessential tough guy, but was great at it.

John Wayne, IMO always played pretty much the same character whether it be a war movie or western, he was mediocrity at it's best , but he was the DUKE.

Ok, Ill concede. Wayne was mediocre compared to Bogart but Wayne had that certain charisma that made up for his lack of acting skill. There was something about Wayne that made him seem "All American."

There are many western actors that act better than Wayne, but Wayne was able to capture my attention.

Not that I needed one, but he had that big father figure about him.

Gary Cooper, Kirk Douglas, Dean Martin and Robert Mitchum were all better actors (imo) than Wayne, but Wayne is who I like to watch. I guess I'm just a big Wayne fan. :)

John Wayne was just as good as Bogart, Cooper, Stewart , and others. One prime example of his acting ability was in She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. He was playing a 50 or 60 year old man when he was much younger. But what really made his career was match up with John Ford and Henry Hathaway who, as directors, made movies to match his acting style. He wasn't as versatile as James Cagney and Jimmy Stewart but he was alot better than people like Charlton Heston

Geez...

Next we'll have a thread arguing that Jimmy Rogers,

Jones, Hank, Merle, Willie, Waylon, Cash and Straight

are not "really" Country.

Dissing The Duke and Moses/ Ben Hur just doesn't compute.

:D

I'm a big fan of Wayne but you don't have a clue comparing him to Stewart , Bogart , Cooper and saying his better than Heston is very laughable.

They all had different acting styles. Depending on the roles they had, they were all individually better than eachother. But, out of that list Charlton Heston is the lowest.  Heston had some great movies like Touch of Evil with Orson Wells, Ben-Hur, and also Soylent Green but Cagney had Yankee Doodle Dandy, Public Enemy; Bogart had African Queen and Maltese Falcon; Stewart had It's a Wonderful Life and Rear Window; and Cooper had Seargent York and High Noon; and John Wayne had The Searchers and Sands of Iwo Jima. They all had countless other great movies. What I'm saying is based on Movie Backgrounds they all beat out Heston

I'll make up another batch of the "home brew" I promised everyone on the Roadtrip last year.

You will know what stagger is all about.   ;D
