Speed trap on I-20 in Georgia. What a hoot.

Never seen anything like it.  We were heading east toward Atlanta.  Between exits 30 and 35, we saw four cruisers lights flashing with five vehicles pulled over.  One cop had nabbed two speeders, and the others, one each.

There was a state trooper travelling ahead of us.  He slowed to make a left hand turn onto a crossover in a wooded section of the median.

There were at least eight more cop cars lined up, facing the west bound lane of I-20.  They had a regular production line going.

Oh, and one more thing.  They were operating in an area where speeding fines were doubled because it was a construction zone.  No work was being done at that time, other than by the long arm of the law.

Happens regularly here too....Cops love construction sites! I think the police department has a contract with the construction company on taking their sweet time fixing and building roads....There was a road by my house in construction for over a year and I've never in my life seen so many sheriff cars for that entire year they had people pulled over everyday. I've had 3 of them follow me to work trying to catch me on anything . I think they got sick of me waving at them after awhile...I'm an extremely caution driver here.

Out here people blow through construction zones like they're being chased or something, and it's rare to see one pulled over.

well, I have driven parts of I-10, I-75 and US 301. 3 of the worst road for speed traps in the south east and counted no less than 10 speed traps in a 6 hour drive!

Economic stimulus packages.

When I was back in Detroit one of the main targets were trucks along the I-94 corridor just south of the city. Not speed traps ( those too ), but weigh masters with portable scales, state and local police pulling trucks over for simple things like a missing letter or number rubbed off from the door, the list is endless. I once had a broken tail light in Hazel Park, had to go to court as this is a federal infraction. In most cases motorists get this fixed, show

proof and the ticket is eliminated, I get $ 350 fine, being as I'm commercial.

In 35 years of either driving myself or having trucks on the road  I could not count the number of piddly tickets, they see a truck and look at dollar signs, you can't win even if you are right. They even pull you over and take a tire gauge out when they can see the tires are new, just an excuse to give a safety inspection which they will always find something wrong, maybe just being 1 flare short of the required 3 or a triangular hazard sign having a small chip in it, I had a cop tell me I didn't have enough band aids in my first aid kit, no ticket....lol.

I ran bias ply as they don't squish down like radials do, so pullovers were a little less for a weight check.

They know the commercial guys rather pay a few hundred dollar fine than take the time to go to court and out of state motorists can't come back to go to court.

It happens a lot on I-95 south just after the bridge separating NH & Maine on Labor Day weekend. At least a dozen NH troopers would circle around between the North & South bound sides nabbing the South bound motorist coming back from ME. I guess the $2.00 toll booth @ Hampton doesn't generate enough revenue.

just west of the arizona/new mexico border, there is a long rise in the highway along i-40...it is a blind rise from either side.

saw no less than 14 a.h.p. cruisers one day on their side of the rise waiting for anything to top the hill from the other side...two clocking, two pulling over, the other ten writing as fast as they could.

nothing like a warm welcome without a kiss.

Ya'll ain't got nothing on us. They set up on I-10 east of Houston with signs starting about 10 miles away stating that road block is ahead. The closer you get the more signs. Be cautious of working drug dogs. Several patrol cars setup on each side of the road with flashing lights. They give the druggies one or two exits to get off the freeway before the checkpoint. All they do is just set up off those two exits and pull over the cars that dart off the freeway. Pretty slick, they know exactly which cars are hauling drugs.

A trap is a something that decieves.  If the highway has those big white signs that post a speed and you go faster that what the sign says you get a ticket.  Except in Alabama,  there are so many people speeding through Birmingham that the leo's just wait to clean up the mess.
