Jeff Bridges is an excellent actor, but i thought maybe too laid back for a western. not a fan of Mat Damon, his acting just doesnt convince me. when i read the post above saying it is a Coen brothers movie, i decided i have to see it.

Appaloosa was a decent modern western. Not great, but entertaining enough.

IMHO, This remake of the movie True Grit is just like all of the other "newer and better" movies that have been made in recent years.

Low talent screenwriters, directors, and studios, trying to cash in off of formerly successful films!

The performance that John Wayne gave in True Grit earned him the Oscar. I can't imagine that Jeff Bridges is going to come anywhere close.

3:10 to Yuma - - The Original with Glenn Ford and Van Heflin was another very good movie. The remake was a poor attempt at copying the same.

Has anyone had to suffer through the 1998 regurgitation of the movie Psycho? Poor Gus Van Sant tries to upstage one of the greatest directors of all time in Alfred Hitchcock.

If Hollywood can't figure out how to come out with enough quality storylines of their own, without ripping off the people who made that place famous to begin with, then they need to find another field of work.

You have to wonder what people would say if some hack decided to re-write every book that a great author had penned. Use the same title, just make it "better". How far would that go?

Seriously though, while I am more of a Clint Eastwood fan, I feel your pain. I shudder to think of remakes of Outlaw Josey Wales or Unforgiven.

At some point, I'm afraid that you'll get to see that very thing.  We'll probably have to wait until after Clint has passed away, but it will happen.

It will be so great to see The Gauntlet with all that realistic CG!!!!!!  Isn't that what makes these remakes so much better?

I'm really surprised to see Jeff Bridges take so much flack here. The guy is a top-shelf actor - and I think he has enough range to pull it off.

I'll reserve judgment until I see the film, though. I'm optimistic at this point.

No doubt Jeff is a good actor and he has been in some very good movies.  I have a very strong feeling that I will have enjoyed the movie much better if Wayne wasn't in the first one. 

For some reason when I watch Wayne, I don't care about the story line as much as I care about watching him. (and no gay jokes ;D)

Jeff might be able to fulfill his role if this movie wasn't a remake, but he is going to have to fill Wayne's shoes, rather he likes it or not. People are going to compare him to Wayne and I don't think he will pull it off.

I too am tired of remakes.  A remake every now and then is ok, but it seems like every movie at the theater is a remake.  Can't someone come up with a new story line

Writers talent is gone! This is why everything is a reality series on TV, all the new tv writers don't know how to write.

Tron Legacy is actually a sequel.  I'm stoked.

She lost her arm at the very end of the book. That shouldn't really change the movie much, just the ending. I'm not sure what you mean by "relevence of Chaney's character and LeBouf". I do think Jeff Bridges is too thin to be a "one eyed fat man".

Chaney had a bigger part of it in the book than in the movie. Also the character development of most characters was dumb down in the movie. Like the whole thing with Rooster Cogburn being in the Confederate Military and I'm trying to remember if LeBouf died in the book or not.

Side note tho, there really isn't anyone besides Jeff Bridges who I think that can be almost as good as the Duke was in this role. Been cool to see Robert Duvall play Rooster tho. I think he could of pulled it off as good as Jeff Bridges but probably at the same level.

There never will be another John Wayne. There were a few contemporaries of his that their acting styles were pretty close to his, prime example probably be George C. Scott
