I've waited a l o n g time for a good western to hit the movies. But come on, True Grit the remake staring Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon? What in insult to the "Duke" and Glen Campbell.

The original True Grit was a great movie and could have been a good remake if they picked a better cast.

I could be jumping the gun by dogging the movie before it comes out, but I just don't see Jeff Bridges living up to the part of John Wayne. And Matt Damon? well I'm not even going to start on him.

First I've heard of it.  Sounds terrible just based on the cast.  You never know though.  I'll probably check it out when it comes out on On Demand or something.  Not one I'll go see in the theaters probably.

Actually, I thought that it was Ben Affeleck, not Matt Damon.

And, you are correct, gonna be hard to beat a movie with the Duke.

The last decent western was Open Range with costner.

3:10 to Yuma

Great movie.

There are two versions of 3:10 to Yuma, both are good in their own way. Open Range was good also, Costner & Duvall  :)

Watched Open Range yesterday after Maverick and both were pretty good.

I think True Grit looks amazing, but I haven't seen the first to compare them.

Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon are both Academy Award winners and I think they will fulfill the acting responsibilities.

Not as western actors.

I'm sure the movie will be good if you never seen the original. I'm just a big John Wayne fan so I have high expectations of those who play his part.

There are other actors that would be far better than those two.  Jeff and Matt are good actors but I don't see them in this movie.

Perhaps I'm wrong though.

I watched the trailer the other night.  I am going to see it, but it just won't be the same as the original, will be hard to beat.

I have grown up on John Wayne and I am also a fan of the Coen Brothers. The Coen Brothers have already stated that their movie will not be like the Henry Hathaway directed original starring John Wayne and Glenn Campbell. It will be based more up the book that the original movie was losely based on. I have read the book along with seeing the original movie countless times, and I think that if anyone is going to do a good job remaking a John Wayne classic thats The Coen Brothers.

I read the book a couple of years ago, and it seemed pretty much the same as the movie. I wonder what they're going to do differently.

The difference would be the relevence of Chaney's character and LeBouf. Also the thing with Maddie Ross's character losing her arm in the book.

She lost her arm at the very end of the book. That shouldn't really change the movie much, just the ending. I'm not sure what you mean by "relevence of Chaney's character and LeBouf". I do think Jeff Bridges is too thin to be a "one eyed fat man".

I've been thinking about this since last night, I don't think anyone could pull off the Rooster character like Wayne.  The Le Boeuf  role could be by Damon though; arrogant and a man you love to hate.

I'm not really a fan of westerns besides 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale and Russell Crowe and Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer.

I never saw the original but I like the previews for True Grit. I know my father n law is a huge fan of the original.

IMHO, This remake of the movie True Grit is just like all of the other "newer and better" movies that have been made in recent years.

Low talent screenwriters, directors, and studios, trying to cash in off of formerly successful films!

The performance that John Wayne gave in True Grit earned him the Oscar.  I can't imagine that Jeff Bridges is going to come anywhere close.

3:10 to Yuma - - The Original with Glenn Ford and Van Heflin was another very good movie.  The remake was a poor attempt at copying the same.

Has anyone had to suffer through the 1998 regurgitation of the movie Psycho?  Poor Gus Van Sant tries to upstage one of the greatest directors of all time in Alfred Hitchcock.

If Hollywood can't figure out how to come out with enough quality storylines of their own, without ripping off the people who made that place famous to begin with, then they need to find another field of work.

You have to wonder what people would say if some hack decided to re-write every book that a great author had penned.  Use the same title, just make it "better".  How far would that go?

Of course, that's just my grumpy opinion. >:(

Tombstone, good one. Val Kilmer twirling the shotglass stole the show! :)

I beg to differ. Obviously you haven't seen the Will Ferrall remake of Land of the Lost... ::) ::)

Seriously though, while I am more of a Clint Eastwood fan, I feel your pain. I shudder to think of remakes of Outlaw Josey Wales or Unforgiven.

I cannot even fathom a remake of a Clint film :-? :-/

he is, By Far, my favorite westerner.....

Unless you count Blazing Saddles with Mel brooks ;D ;D
