Megastink Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 For starters, i would go with Albino, Midnight walker, and Natural Green. The green is for clear water, and whenever youre trying to immitate a frod. Albino for clear days, and MW for cloudy days. Also pick up a Barney or Puddy Black. These colors more resemble bluegill. Bluegill live in the same areas as bass do, and therefore, bass are well known to eat them. They will sometimes trap bluegill against floating mats of vegitation and the shoreline. Throw one of those colors when you notice bass blowing up on the shoreline. AND THROW IT ON 50# Braid!!!!!!!!!!! Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted July 19, 2008 Super User Posted July 19, 2008 My hollow frog choice is the Snagproof Bobby's Perfect Frog-color doesn't make any difference because where I use that type, the bass can't see it. My swimming frog choice is the Zoom Horny Toad, it weighs more than most and I can cast it farther to cover more water per cast-color doesn't make any difference to the fish. White is my perferred color for both so I can see it. Quote
Megastink Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 I like the Horny Toad for s swimfrog. I treat it like a buzzbait. Quote
wilsonm1 Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 hey, i use zoom frogs( various colors) with twist lock hooks Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 19, 2008 Super User Posted July 19, 2008 Hollow bodied frogs are go to lure for me. I have used,Bobbys Perfect Frog, Mann's Super Frog, River-2-Sea's Bully Wa, Reaction Innovations Swamp Donkey, and Spro's Bronze Eye. I USED to like Bobby Perfect Frog the best, BUT it ripped way to easy, and hook up ratio was less than ideal. The Mann's frog just plain sucks, and both thr R2S, and Reaction Innovation frogs didn't impress me. When I first started frog fishing I bought a few Spro's and prefered the Bobbys Perfect Frog. Now it's the other way around. There is something about that Spro frog, bass just crush it, hook up % is far better, they are quite abit more durable the skirt materila is 1000 time better, and trimable to your liking, and for some reason they seem to cast much better. Only downside to the Spro is they take a little more practice to "walk" than the Bobbys Perfect Frog, but when you get the hang of it you can walk them so slowly bass just can't seem to resist it. I've just recently went to fishing non buzz style frogs the last week or two. My results are 10-15 strikes on two trips and 0 fish!! I've been reading like crazy for tips and I've now turned my hooks up and added a trailer hook. My concern with a trailer hook is the added snags but if it gets to bad I'll thrown on a piece of a old senko texas style to lower snags. I've also trimmed my skirts some but does anybody else know any good tips?? My main frog I'm using is the Scum frog tournament edition. The other frog I have is the Snag Proof Moss Master Tournament Frog but I haven't used it yet. Quote
Super User Micro Posted July 20, 2008 Super User Posted July 20, 2008 I just tried NetBaits 4" frog in watermelon/pearl. May be my new favorite. Quote
Megastink Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Ok, i think there are three possible reasons for your misses: 1.) Your not using braided line: -This is key because of the no-stretch feature and it acts as a machete through vegetation. 2.) Your rod is not heavy enough: - Are you throwing it on at least a Medium Heavy Rod? If not, go get one (Heavy Action would be better). 3.) You are setting the hook immediatly upon the strike. - This is the most common mistake to frogging newbies. You must understand that when a bass sucks in a frog, it also sucks in water, air, and whatever cover youre fishing around. Wait an extra 2 seconds before setting the hook. This extra time gives the bass time to push the water and air out of its mouth, which can get in the way of a hookset. Quote
FR0G Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 To make things simple, I think the frog most people use, is Snag Proofs Bobby's Perfect Frog. Its a great frog with quality hooks and a good hook up ratio. My other favorite is Reaction Innovations Swamp Donkey. I like its skinny profile and up turned hooks. What ever you choose, make sure you be patient with the hook set! Quote
