XbassmasterX Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 i am going out on the lake this coming up wed. and need to pick up some more frogs and was woundering what you guys think is the best overall frog brand, color, type ect.. b/c I can't afford to bring everything what would be your guys #1 pick? thanks Quote
Bryant. Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I only use Snagproofs Bobby's Perfect Frog. I have various colors but my favorite is cicada and mossback is a close second. Quote
zbigbadaaron Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I use melon red/pearl stanley's ribbit rigged with a 3/0 gamakatsu hook. Quote
alabamabassmaster Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I can't decide which of these two get the #1 vote so I'll just list both. Scum Frog Trophy Series in White and Watermelon RedYum BuzzFrog in Green Pumpkin Chartreuse Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 spro bronze eye... my favorite frog ever. I hate topwater with a passion but i will throw this frog when ever i get a chance Quote
mattm Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I really like the rage tail. Probably my Strike King bias since I love their Lil' Mr. Money spinnerbait, but i've never been a huge frog guy. Until this spring when I was catching fish on the Rage Tail 6 weeks before most people were even throwing topwater. It is a good bait. Quote
warmer Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 in the soft plastic its the horny toad hands down for me. in the hollow body its scum frog and spro Quote
scbassin Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 The answer to this question will be very subjective. I suggest you pick up a couple of different brands & try them to you find the one you have the most confidence in, then you have the best one. The hollow body frog that I like the best is the Boze Sumo Frog, it has a soft body so when the fish bites down on it you get good hook exposer. This was Dean Rojas frog before he changed sponsors to Spro. For a soft plastic I like the Hog Swamp Toad, it has a loud gurgling sound coming thru the water & when you stop it looks just like a frog swimming toward the bottom. Quote
XbassmasterX Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 thanks a lot to everyone I think I will just have to try out a few of these to find what works best around here but I have mainly used hollow body scum frogs and such but does the soft plastic "I use melon red/pearl stanley's ribbit rigged with a 5/0 owner twistlock hook. "bigbadaaron does it snag a lot when going through the heavier cover? I have always questioned those but it seems to have lots of Successful outings Quote
MARSH MASTER Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 The rage tail is my number one pic. I've caught so many fish on this frog compared to all others I've tryied. The action it makes is awesome. I've thrown this frog all day on a blue bird day and killed 'em. I think the scum frog and spro get to many short strikes. Quote
fretfishman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 i use a couple snag proofs I still have from when they came out and a stanley ribbit, which is more like a buzzbait but can also be fished slower like a normal topwater frog...only it sinks. I saw a video of the 3:16 no bull frog and definitely want to try that. the action and appearance are top-notch. Quote
VA BassHound Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Try a 3" Culprit frog. I caught 21 bass off of it today. Its smaller then most plastic frogs, which I think results in more strikes. Quote
XbassmasterX Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 I really like the rage tail. Until this spring when I was catching fish on the Rage Tail 6 weeks before most people were even throwing topwater. It is a good bait. ok now that you and marsh master have talked about this frog I realy like the sound of the action but for some reason I can not find it on BPS online or *** its probably just me overlooking it but could someone post a link?? thanks for whoever does and is it a hollow body or soft plastic?? Megastink Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I have pondered the very same question. Which frog is BEST? i did some exparimenting of my own. I threw Rage Tails, Ribbits, Snag-Proofs, and as many other name brand frogs i could find. My conclusion? SPRO's Bronzeye 65. I had an about equal number of bites on this frog then the Bobby's Perfect Frog, but my HOOK-UP ratio was way higher, all other variables consistent. Buy two of these: white and black. Use the white when the sun is out, and black on a cloudy day. DO IT! you wont be disappointed. Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I haven't had much luck with the rage tail toads but I have had terrific luck on the "Ribbit Frogs" I get the at Gander Mountain. One of the best baits so far but I did recently order some of "***" frogs and I can't wait to put them to the test against the Ribbit. Quote
XbassmasterX Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 thanks :-?black bass for the links and too megastrike I have picked up a scum frog trophy series and when we went out to the lake we had a few bites but no hook sets (worms were amazing there yesterday) but thinking about buying a one of those spros bronzeye 65 and thrown that around b/c they have great cover and pads for frogs just not the right time and megastrike how did you work that frog?? :-? Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Super User Posted July 17, 2008 Seems like you folks liken the "Rage Tail" baits with frogs? Two distinctly different animals in my view. I've use the "Salad Spoon" for years with a great deal of success - for that "type" of bait. For FROGS, I'd go with the Spro Bronzeye. In any case, you really do need to separate these two baits. They act and perform entirely differently. JMO. Quote
Megastink Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 The beauty of that frog is that you can use it in open water too. i work it with sparatic light twitches over weeds and around laydowns. However, when fishing around and under overhangs, i walk the dog. This frog requires very little effort to do so. Light jerks of the rod as you reel slowly. You can just about walk the dog inplace with this frog. But expariment. What works for me may not work for you. Get out there and fish. This'll be the last frog you you buy! Quote
XbassmasterX Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 alrite sounds good next time i get out to gander I am plannin on picking up one of those spro bronzeye 65 and I will just have to see for myself how well these frogs realy work Quote
Steven Ladner Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Yep, Spro has some great frogs. My best ones yet. Quote
Megastink Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 My favorite technique is to cast it onto land, and hop it into the water A lot of people don't present it lifelike enough. You'd be suprised how many bass you can catch just by hopping it into the water from shore. Quote

I would of never thought of that it truly is most life like I diffently need to try that now the only trouble is picking up the right colors saying there is like 20 different colors for spro frogs Quote
