MMan16 Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 My grandfathers birthday is coming up and I wanted to get him some different meats and fish. He's always been big into trying different foods. He primarily likes fish and poultry. So I was wondering if you guys order from any online sites and could make some recommendation's? Thanks for any help! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Cabelas has differant types of meats (smoked of course.) Quote
MMan16 Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 Ya i saw them but i was looking more for uncooked meats. I've looked at Omaha steaks but they have your ever day kind of meat. I'd like to get a couple different birds and fish something hes never had before. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Google wild game meat markets , I'm sure their around. Quote
Nine Miler Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 What about those things where you go out on a hunt, and then they take you in the lodge for a wild game dinner? What's your budget? Quote
Super User VolFan Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Pheasant and/or quail are pretty easy to find. You may even be able to get them at a local Whole Foods, if you have a local Whole Foods. Elk is also fantastic, don't overcook it. As for fish, while in Whole Foods, grab some whole mackeral and grill it with some lemon slices in the cavity. You could grilkl the mack right next to the quail/pheasant. Quote
Super User VolFan Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 www.dartagnan.com if you can't get it at WF. It is NOT cheap, but their quality is second to none. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Ostrich meat is pretty good, IMO. Obviously others will have different tastes. Thats fairly exotic though. As far as fish goes, it all depends on what you have locally available. I could recommend several types of fish that are local to my area that you may not have up there. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 9, 2010 Super User Posted November 9, 2010 Her's a couple. http://exoticmeatmarket.com/?gclid=CLrA2OjnkqUCFbJa7AodSV_aMw Quote
OHIO Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 If you have a Jungle Jim's by you I would check that out. My dad orders from Cajun Grocer a lot and we always get crawfish and boudan. Not the most exotic, but they sure do taste good. I have also heard gator meat is pretty good. Quote
MMan16 Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 Google wild game meat markets , I'm sure their around. Did that. But I've never ordered from any of the stores so i don't know which ones are reputable. As far as the hunt and game dinner gramps is 83 so don't think he'll be up for it but we have been to game dinners before great times. I did go to exoticmeatmarket and dartagnan they had some good stuff. I'll probably be getting a couple things from each. Soflabassaddict i was thinking about getting him some ostrich its something i know hes never had before but i also saw you could buy the eggs. Ever have them? If so how are they? Quote
GTrombly Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I just got a catalog from bass pro that had all kinds of meats in it. it had like wild boar sausage and some other things. Quote
OHIO Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I have tried a lot of different jerky including, wild boar, ostrich, and gator, and they were all good. I read the packaging later and realized that they were only 10% of the advertised meat and the rest was beef. I'm not sure if they do this when buying the stuff raw, but I would watch out for it. Ya i noticed that a lot of the sausages say that if you read. I don't think they could mix it if i got for example of a whole game bird. Quote
