Nine Miler Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 Its good so the kids don't have to wait for the bus or walk to school in the dark. I don't mind it for that reason. Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Here's an interesting trivia question: What was the first country to adopt daylight savings time and why? USA. Because we wanted to be complex, and be different? :-? It's Germany though, during the war iirc Quote
OHIO Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I think that's right. Did you know that off of the top of your head? If so, that's pretty impressive. Quote

Nine Miler Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 Now we know who and when, but why? Quote
Super User Root beer Posted November 8, 2010 Super User Posted November 8, 2010 Now we know who and when, but why? Supposedly it conserves electricity. At least that why we do it here in the U.S. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I thought it originated to help out farmers in some way. Don't remember how it helped/helps them, or if this is even true. Too lazy to google it. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 8, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 8, 2010 Germany did it in WWI for 2 reasons: 1. To save coal and 2. To gain a military edge. Obviously #2 didn't work. Quote

OHIO Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I heard that it gave farmers more time to tend to their crops, but I really have no idea. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted November 9, 2010 Super User Posted November 9, 2010 When I was working on my undergrad, I was a student in southern Indiana. Portions of the state do not recognize DST...that got a little weird. Well, that and the whole dry Sunday thing. I remember trying to secure some beverages for the first Packer game of the season, and we had to drive with a legal foreign exchange student waaay into KY for suds. That sucked, as I felt pretty crappy about wasting Tsuyoshi's morning. Quote
