OHIO Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Well since the Ranger has been sold and I can't find any others with low miles, I have begun to look at sedans. I am leaning towards a Civic just because I have experience with these and I know they are reliable as all get out. Found one for $5,000 and I plan on getting it if it doesn't get sold by the weekend. Quote
bwell Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Civics are nice reliable cars... One of the guys I fish with has a hatchback and all of our poles can fit in it if we fold down the back seat. I don't like putting poles in the back of my truck because I am afraid they will get all scratched up ect. When I go out I usually take my wifes highlander or my corolla. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 4, 2010 Super User Posted November 4, 2010 My Nissan Maxima had a trunk pass through with the arm rest down in the back seat. Rods up to 8' fit perfectly. As for the car, decent gas mileage, plenty of power, a bit of torque steer and some understeer in hard cornering, but handled great for such a big car. Plenty of aftermarket toys for it too. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted November 4, 2010 Super User Posted November 4, 2010 The ones I have been around always had problems... They are very heavy, very under powered, slow, and not to mention the gas mileage sucks. Why sell that to buy something else that is going to get crappy gas mileage? can you define crappy gas milage? 14-16 mpg in a small truck... I get 12-13.xx city mpg in my Dodge with a 5.9l gas engine fully loaded... all of my 4.0's have been over 17 mpg. in fact i complain when the mileage drops that low. my 5.0 Mountaineer was around 16 mpg as the norm. Stasher1 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Around here, $5500 would put you into a late 90's Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban. The gas mileage isn't all that great (15-17 mpg), but they're pretty reliable, can easily carry 7'+ rods, and reasonably priced parts are available everywhere. I paid $4000 cash for my '95 Suburban with 110K about 5 years ago, and it hasn't cost me anything except tires, brakes, and a battery. FWIW, I test drove a brand new 4 cyl, manual trans. Ranger back in '07. I pulled out of the dealer's lot, drove to the first traffic light, made a u-turn and brought it back to the dealer. I don't think I put more than mile on it. It was the most gutless vehicle I have ever driven. Quote
