bwell Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I would look for something else for that price... I bought my 2002 Dodge Ram quad cab fully loaded (leather, power everything, 4x4 ect ect) with only 69k on it for 8 grand... Deals are out there there man. If you do buy it don't post it here because you will have several people saying I told you so! Selling a POS to get another old expensive POS is a bad idea... Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted November 3, 2010 Super User Posted November 3, 2010 My dad had a ranger back in the day. Was a 91 I believe and was green. The paint did seem to fade in only certain spots, but it was always left out in the elements. He sold it about 03?ish?? His buddy he sold it to had the piston blow through the hood at 200k. But he bought a crate motor for it after that and its been running like a champ ever since. Quote

bwell Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 The ones I have been around always had problems... They are very heavy, very under powered, slow, and not to mention the gas mileage sucks. Why sell that to buy something else that is going to get crappy gas mileage? Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted November 3, 2010 Super User Posted November 3, 2010 thats the milage on my Ranger when i sold it for a Mercury Mountaineer. weve also had 2 Explorers that have never been a problem. Quote
bwell Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Also is your car payed off? If it is, why buy something thing that you will have to make payments on and pay way to much for it? Quote

Why sell that to buy something else that is going to get crappy gas mileage? I could care less about any of these things mentioned. If I wanted to buy a fast car, I would have bought a 5.0. The gas mileage all depends on the way you drive it. I have gotten 25 mpg driving very conservatively, but that's not how I usually drive. I am mainly selling because it is too small. My 7' rods can't fit in it and there is hardly any storage space. Quote

That's pretty good gas mileage for the GT's, definitely not what I have seen before. I dont know, do what you want, but I think even 4-4500 grand is way to much for a ranger. Quote

I get 12-13.xx city mpg in my Dodge with a 5.9l gas engine fully loaded... Quote

I realize this, but it's probably the easiest and cheapest car to mod from what I have seen. My buddy has one that runs 12's with only bpu. But back on the subject of the thread, the guy just sold the Ranger, so it looks like I'll be looking for another one or something else. Quote
bwell Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 You can fit a 7' rod in a sedan... You can probably find a Corolla for cheap that will give you storage and can fit the poles in the car if you fold down the back seats. Quote

Most educated buyers know that "Blue Book" prices are inflated. It is a sellers guide. Take a look at completed auctions on ebay, or try Edmunds. Your local Auto Trader will give you an idea as well. jbass Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I just got rid of a '92 after I put 280,000 miles on it. 4X4, 5 speed manual, 4.0 L six. I barely got 16 mpg and sometimes less. The transmission started giving me fits. The first time I had the trans repaired it was $3500. The 2nd and 4 gear synchros were going out and it jambed up in third coming home while commuting from work. The next Sunday I stopped in at a local dealer near me and picked up another Ranger, '06 automatic, 3.0 L six with 55,000 miles on it and it has been heaven. Don't have to shift and has plenty of power and gets 22 to 25 mpg. Quote
