Super User fishfordollars Posted November 3, 2010 Super User Posted November 3, 2010 yep, always have and you should, it helps to stop the commercials! Its hilarious when those that gripe on how the Big G is running then they admit they didn't vote ;D I agree you should vote, but I don't agree with the second half of that statement. Voting is only one part of the process. Once the election is over, you need to tell your representative what you want them to do. Over and over. Everyone does. Look at it this way: so, I voted. My person didn't win. I'll go home and whine for the next 2/4/6 years because I earned the right whine. Uhhhh...NO!!!! Write your elected official, and tell them your concerns with specific issues, and how you want them to act on them. That's WAYYYY more important than actually voting. Voting gets you a sticker and a badge on Foursquare. Communicating with your elected representatives gets things done. Sometimes. Very well stated J Franco.

Communicating with your elected representatives gets things done. Sometimes. In all but a few cases your letters, emails and phone calls are handled by staff and never read by your representative, except if you are a lobbyist, it's the same on both sides of the aisle. A normal ebb and flow of mid term election, the next one will probably be the reverse of this one.
Skeet22 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Yes....It is just a shame that the majority of voters do not really UNDERSTAND what they are voting on and for. They are voting off of their parents or grandparents beliefs of the past. Times are changing and the Dems of the past are not nearly what they are now. If your going to vote please understand what you are voting for. If you don't and are voting just to say you voted please stay home... I had a co worker this morning admit that she pays no attention to politics and has given up on our country and did not know what the outcome of the elections were last night. I let know what the outcome was and that I was excited about most of it and she just looked at me and said" Don't you know Republicans are for the rich"is that what you want?" I cannot even explain how PO'ed this makes me that there are people like this that are so oblivious to reality.

Its these types of correspondence with people in power that got us the right to fish for bass year round in much of our state, overturning a policy that had been place for nearly a century.

I leave common sense where it lies, just showing the water doesn't mean they'll drink it. But I didn't wanna go this deep into the voted question so soon, hate to see the thread closed so early

Maybe the local sheriff is your fishing buddy, but getting phone calls from U.S. congress people is highly doubtful unless you are a big money donor or involved in a major national story. One that comes to mind, being in Florida, is the Cuban child (Elian Gonzales) living with relatives when her mother passed and the Cuban government wanted the child back. The politicians were out in force visiting the home, but under normal circumstances I'd say don't wait by the phone.
done Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 yep. Next year I am going to hire an NFL lineman to run out ahead of me and hammer the folks along the sidewalk trying to get you to vote for them as you walk in to vote. Dear lord, I would get harassed less running through a dog kennel with steaks hanging off my jeans.

Can you do the same for Muskie? I hate having to wait until the third weekend in June to hit some of my favorite NY Muskie lakes.

"Elected Official" was the term. You can get a whole lot more done if you think locally. State/County/town government. I'm surprised at your jaded, apathetic point of view. Perhaps its a New York thing, who knows. This country has a long standing tradition of activism. And LC Man, you'll never get that rule changed. Takes too long to grow a trophy Musky, only to have someone snag it from 6" water during the spawn, LOL.
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 3, 2010 Super User Posted November 3, 2010 Since this has a political theme to it , I'm not allowed to comment one way or the other.

Though, I don't know of many serious musky anglers who would activily target spawning musky. The people I worry about are those who can't believe their eyes when they see a 50 inch fish swimming next to their dock in a foot of water (at which point, a closed season wouldn't deter them from trying to get this fish).
gobig Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Polititions are like those who participate in the WWF. They act like they hate each other on camera then have drinks and play golf together after the show. Almost all of them work for wall street.
