We do elect a pub governor now and then as an affirmative action thing. The best thing about today happened at eight o'clock. The phone stopped ringing when the polls closed.

Half of our county commissioners are doing prison time and we thought they were good people when we voted them in. Then there's the ones who vote for their party regardless of the candidate. I'd bet 1k that 1/2 of the people who voted couldn't write one paragraph detailing their candidates credentials. LOL, people would probably vote for Bundy if he was their party.

Prior to Brown, the last U.S. senator from Mass was Edward Brooke who served from 1967 to 1979. A thirty year span between Brooke and Brown. Brooke and Brown sounds like the name of a bookstore or a law firm. Brooke is brown, but Brown isn't a brook.

I was bartending at my favorite old watering hole that night. Three young guys were sitting at the bar lamenting the fact that they would lose the right to drink soon. The bar owner walked past me behind the bar, and went up to these young men. "Show me your voter registration card, and you'll drink free all night!" he told them. Needless to say they were asked to leave when none of them could. In this instance, apathy became rather sobering!

Many on the right listen to people who provide them with carefully chosen facts (i.e Limbaugh, Hannity, etc) that support their viewpoint and many on the left do the same (i.e. Olberman, Maddow, etc.). No one in either of these groups has all the facts and yet, each of their favorite talk show hosts tell them they are the most informed audience in the nation. In my opinion, to be an informed voter you need to listen to both sides and read the financial websites and pages almost every day. If you did you would be shocked at how much information from talk shows is twisted or only uses anecdotal instances to support the viewpoint they want to espouse. But I digress . . . . yes, I voted.

Voting is only one part of the process. Once the election is over, you need to tell your representative what you want them to do. Over and over. Everyone does. Look at it this way: so, I voted. My person didn't win. I'll go home and whine for the next 2/4/6 years because I earned the right whine. Uhhhh...NO!!!! Write your elected official, and tell them your concerns with specific issues, and how you want them to act on them. That's WAYYYY more important than actually voting. Voting gets you a sticker and a badge on Foursquare. Communicating with your elected representatives gets things done. Sometimes.
