Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 30, 2010 Super User Posted October 30, 2010 I remember seeing that picture a while back. It was true then, it's true now. If you ever want to see proof of this, drive outside any military base and check out the wives. You may be surprised... Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 30, 2010 Super User Posted October 30, 2010 When you get to be my age you do not need alcohol for this to happen. :-? Quote

We have several members who are active and retired military that might take exception to that remark. Are you saying obesity is more common in miltary wives than civilian wives? Just for clarification, do they look like the girl behind the glass, or the girl in the glass? Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 30, 2010 Super User Posted October 30, 2010 Unfortunately the one behind the glass... At least, thats been the case at every duty station I was at. Quote

I got out of the navy in Jan 09 and i will confirm this statement, not all of them look like that but a lot do. They sit at home all day pumping out kids and the husbands are gone out to sea all the time. They don't see them that much. Plus most of them are just married for money. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 30, 2010 Super User Posted October 30, 2010 There is a genetic abnormality in my family as myself and two of my cousins truly cannot taste tequila. It has no taste kind of like water. I learned this the hard way as one night I was engaging in some drinking (I was of age of course), and managed to put down an entire 750 of Cuervo in about two hours. I do not remember anything but the next morning I got told the stories and my throat burned for a few days and I did not eat for the next few days. I lived off water and Gatorade. It was just awful... Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 30, 2010 Super User Posted October 30, 2010 Fort Hood has a rather large amount of....well, large Korean women who got picked up when guys did the year tour in Korea. I do mean a large amount. It's almost scary. Quote
GTrombly Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Yeah some guys will marry anyone, but mostly people who don't know and won't find out that there paycheck doubles when they get married. The guys keep all the money and the girls get heath insurance. Quote

Bro, I've been married and divoriced twice in the Army (thin women both times ), and I'm here to tell you nobody's paycheck doubles when they get married. BAH and BAS combined make up only about 20% of my paycheck. Family seperation pay for deployed Soldiers isn't enough to excited about either. Quote

Nibbles Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I personally find gin to be even worse. Mix up some gin and tonic and they go down like cups of sprite for me. Usually leads to bad ideas and waking up in random places. Quote

Okay, I should have said "almost nobody's paycheck doubles when they get married". Your's was an extreme case where as you were only an E3 living in a very high cost of living area. But let me ask you this, how much of that $2100 was actually money in your pocket? Service members in lower pay grades are almost always better off staying in the barracks where they don't have to pay rent or utilities, and they can eat in the dining facility. I'm not saying that they shouldn't get married. I just think it's stupid when they get married thinking they will make more money. Quote
GTrombly Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I made some money till we bought a house, I lived on the ship and she stayed home with her parents. I had a lot of friends who made money, they would use their "wife's" lease in NYC for the BAH, and their wife didn't know about the money. It is stupid and that is why the divorce rate is super high in the military. Quote
SDoolittle Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 What's even worse is when the run off with another man, and the Soldier is still obligated to send them money because they're still married. Then when the divorice is final, they're awarded half of the Soldier's retirement. Fortunately for me, all my exwives were airheads, and I didn't have to deal with that. Quote
