A truck with a cap is basically the same as an SUV except for the seats.

If you don't need to fit a lot of people in the vehicle, get a truck.

I'm pretty sure the issue with the Dodge transmissions is a thing of the past, so anything fairly new should be alright.

I don't have any experience with Jeeps, but can tell you I have never seen one hauling a big bass boat.

I bought an expedition last year and i love it. it has the heavy duty tow package and it has plenty of power. it is great for driving with family going out with the guys. there is not an uncomfortable seat in the thing.

I have an '06 Commander with the 5.7L Hemi...the one pictured is not mine, but its the same.

I really like it for towing my 900lbsish rig. It is also very nice for everyday driving. Mileage is like any others, maybe 14-18 while towing depending how you drive, but it definitely has all the creature comforts.

Do you need a full size truck?

I recommend the new Tacoma's, they have very good gas mileage not towing and good mileage while towing. My boater in my club drove 300+ miles towing a 19 foot bass boat with a 200 on the back. And they are under what you want to spend. might sacrfice on power a bit, but they get the job done. My dad has had his 2003 Tacoma since new with over 250K on it and still going strong

My big worry is beating up the motor while towing. I will be towing a lot.

I have a 04 Tundra 4.7L engine.  It tows my two boats really easily.  I've towed my dads triton 20x2 several times and it does the job just fine.

Unless I was going up a hill you really couldn't tell that  big boat was behind the truck.

The actual trailer of the boat will make a difference as well, tandem is better.

I have owned a Jeep grand Cherokee, A Dodge 3500 diesel and 2 Toyota Tundras(one 2001 4.7 v8 and current 5.7 v8).

The Grand Cherokee transmission fell out of it while towing a small enclosed trailer. I have heard of several others with trans problems and WOULD NOT recommend it to anyone. for what its worth mine was an older 1994 model but still left a bad taste in my mouth.

********Next had the 2001 4.7 tundra!  LOVED the truck!  Had plenty of power and had decent gas mileage!  Would recommend trying to find a used Tundra in the 2001-2006 yr range as they came with the 4.7 and were a little smaller than the current body style!**********

Had the need for a larger truck so got my 3500 Dodge dually with the cummins deisel!  Pulled my 30 ft enclosed car hauler with race car, mobile shop and all spares needed to race anywhere we went!  Averaged about 50,000+ miles a year pulling and I think would be overkill for just a bass boat!

When I "retired" from racing, and didn't need the dually anymore I knew I wanted nothing other than another Tundra!  That thing is a beast, and there is a reason that they sponsor bass tournaments and series allover....They know they can pull any boat any competitor has for many, many miles!

***Disclaimer- I do not work for any automobile company, never have, and never will.***

I have a toyota 4-runner with a 4.7 L V8. It gets 19-21 mpg highway and 15-17 mpg towing a 20 foot boat on a tandem axle trailer. Plenty of power. I really like it its my second 4-runner purchased for towing. Whatever you buy make sure it has a towing package included.

Guess I am a tightwad. I built an 82 GMC 1/2 ton. 454, RV cam, Quadrajet, 4 speed auto, 3:08 posi. Filled the receiver hitch with lead for added weight at the wheels on ramps. I pull a 20' triton w/a 200 Merc. about 13 to 15 MPG when towing the boat unless I decide to pass everyone else.

yea the milage isnt bad but it isnt great. The 4wheel drive has not worked since my dad got the truck, tow/haul thing doesnt work. this may be me and my dads fault but it has 200000 miles on it and its on its last leg.
