Super User bilgerat Posted October 17, 2010 Super User Posted October 17, 2010 I'm 44 years old and thought I didn't need all that math either. I will have to tell you, I use some type of algebra or trigonometry on an everyday basis (sin, cos, tan). To be honest, I got a project I had to estimate (7 bridges) that was ALL in metric and I had to convert back into Imperial. I'm glad I paid attention to my math instructor in HIGHSCHOOL! So stay with it, you never know when you'll need i it! x10 As a mechanic, I often have to convert metric into imperial when figuring out torque values for critical bolts. Geometry comes into play as some fasteners have to be turned a specified number of degrees after final torque is achieved. That's just the beginning. Math figures into just about everything. Quote

So how much pressure was exerted onto that rod in your avatar when it tried to compress water in the cylinder? LOL Quote
aarogb Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 And if it's fill in the blank then the answer is who gives a cra*. ;D HaHa I have actually wrote that on a U.S. History test that was fill in the blank... Man I am in the same boat that you are in. I have Honors Algebra II and that stuff is hard!!! Its much different than Geometry (which I loved). Quote

I too was a beast at geometry, but this Algebra is stupid hard. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 that stuff is easy but them %@#%& geometry proofs are a pain the butt Quote

Super User Dan: Posted October 18, 2010 Super User Posted October 18, 2010 I took two math courses in college ( I got a B.S.) and other than that I have used absolutely none of the math I learned after approximately 5th grade. Unless you are pursuing a math based profession, skip out on the numbers... Quote

Unless you are pursuing a math based profession, skip out on the numbers... I wouldn't recommend skipping out on all of them. Time value of money is the best math formulas anyone could learn. It benefits you every day. Just throwing it out there. ;D Quote
aarogb Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 that stuff is easy but them %@#%& geometry proofs are a pain the butt Don't remind me about those things. That was the one thing I could not get no matter how hard I tried. My teacher did show me a good way to remember one proof: Angle-Side-Side Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 18, 2010 Super User Posted October 18, 2010 L'Hopital it!!!! Sorry, I say that for EVERY math problem, LOL. Quote
