I'm in Adv. Algebra II, and well, I need some help.

I don't quite get factoring.

Here are some exaples that need to be factored;

8xy+3x2-8ay-3ax

128xy+192x+48y+72

28mw2+35mk-12nw2-15nk

Any help is appreciated,

Collin

Here ya go.

Let a=(y+z)/2, b=(z+x)/2, c=(x+y)/2, to get:

    5                   4        2             2   3

(2 z  + (11 y + 11 x) z  + (30 y  + 48 x y + 30 x ) z

     3        2        2          3   2

+ (30 y  + 76 x y  + 76 x  y + 30 x ) z

     4        3        2  2           3             4       5         4         2  3

+ (11 y  + 48 x y  + 76 x  y  + 48 x  y + 11 x ) z + 2 y  + 11 x y  + 30 x  y

       3  2        4         5              5             4

+ 30 x  y  + 11 x  y + 2 x )/16 >= (2 z  + (5 y + 5 x) z

       2             2   3         3           2           2            3        2

+ (6 y  + 16 x y + 6 x ) z  + (6 y  + 24 x y  + 24 x  y + 6 x ) z

       4       3       2  2          3           4             5        4      2  3

+ (5 y  + 16 x y  + 24 x  y  + 16 x  y + 5 x ) z + 2 y  + 5 x y  + 6 x  y

      3       2      4       5

+ 6 x  y  + 5 x  y + 2 x )/16

  Just kidding.

Just kidding.

HAAHAHAHA

On serious note, I cannot even remember factoring.. The only thing I remember about Algebra 2 is that my math teacher from that class was a fellow fisherman. He played hooky one day and told me about it following day. It was funny how one day we had a substitute teacher and next day he was telling me about his day on the lake from previous day. ;D That all I remember from Algebra 2.

8xy+3x^2-8ay-3ax

factor out the 3x and 8y first

8xy-8ay+3x^2-3ax

8y(x-a)+3x(x-a)

then... collect like-terms?

(x-a)(8y+3x) = 8xy+3x^2-8ay-3ax

your welcome...

If not, try and reach out for "Hookemdown" he probably the smartest one around here

Well thanks, that made my day.  I feel honored.   :)

But math has always been my weakness.  I can do Calculus, but I have trouble doing simple arithmetic and algebra.  Calculators have spoiled me.

That made more sense than alot of the sites im looking at!

If you can explain this one i'll be so grateful;

same concept

x^5 means x*x*x*x*x

factor out the greatest common factor and x

You know whats sad... I remember more calculus than I do algebra. I forgot how to do that until TrippyJai answered the question :P

The more advanced I get in math, the less of the old stuff I remember :(

The answer is 3.  Nuff said.

If it's multiple choice, it's C.

And if it's fill in the blank then the answer is

who gives a cra*. ;D

Haha for the uber hard questions i've been known to write "When am I going to need this in life, again?" ;D

Or in science and it ask's why something does something i've written "Because Im a Doctor" or "Because Old Spice can make your man smell like me" or some really stupid answer to make my teacher laugh when they read it.

I'm 44 years old and thought I didn't need all that math either. I will have to tell you, I use some type of algebra or trigonometry on an everyday basis (sin, cos, tan).

To be honest, I got a project I had to estimate (7 bridges) that was ALL in metric and I had to convert back into Imperial. I'm glad I paid attention to my math instructor in HIGHSCHOOL!

So stay with it, you never know when you'll need i it!

That's hilarious man.

The commercials are annoying as all get out, but that was funny.  ;D ;D ;D

YES!

If you don't know the answer, guess C.

Yup, I would have never guessed there was so much math involved with psychology. I would say the last four psych classes were essentially math classes with psych terms and examples. When it comes to psych testing and interpreting results it is all about algebra, geometry, and trig. No calculus yet thankfully.
