Super User Fishing Rhino Posted October 8, 2010 Super User Posted October 8, 2010 Something happened, or I unknowingly did something to my computer. Now, when I click on a link in a post, it opens sizewise, smaller than a credit card. They are the size of the notices you get when you click on one of the icons at the bottom right of the screen, such as the volume setting. They will expand to full page when I click on the maximize button, but for some reason, the default seems to have changed for opening links. Any thoughts? Edit: The blue bar at the top does show in the small version which opens. The title of the page shows partially and the buttons at the top right are there. Quote
Super User Marty Posted October 8, 2010 Super User Posted October 8, 2010 I am not particularly computer-knowledgeable, but next time it happens, don't maximize it with the button. Rather, drag it to full size by the corners and see if it remembers the new size. Quote
NateFollmer Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Marty your right. Windows will remember the size of windows opened. Just drag the next one out to what size you want, close it and all others should open that size. See Marty you're a jr. geek Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted October 8, 2010 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2010 Just tried it. Didn't work. I'm going to run the diskcheck program. Maybe that will cure it. First though, I'll turn the unit off, then disconnect to power source. That cures many ailments. Quote

IMO, tabbed browsing (when you click a link, the new page opens in a tab in the same browser) is MUCH better than having a new browser pop up every time you click a link. This is a FireFox default, but it isn't for Internet Explorer. If you are indeed using IE, then you can click on Tools, then click on Internet Options - - in the General tab there is section for "Tabs" - click on the Settings button for the "Tabs." When you open the settings, a window will pop up - look down at the bottom where it says "Open Links From Other Programs In." Select the middle option (open tab in current window). This will allow you to open links in the same browser as a new tab. As an alternative solution, you could go to Firefox.com and click the Download button. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted October 9, 2010 Author Super User Posted October 9, 2010 It's weird indeed. All I get in the little window is the upper left corner of the page with the "File Edit View Favorites Tools Help" and square with the "-" in it, the square to maximize the page and the red square with the "X" to shut the page. There is nothing but the shortened toolbar section, not even the url line and the page title above it. I clicked on view, then clicked on full screen. Now it opens in full screen, but hides all the toolbars and the page that is open. Move the cursor to the top, and they appear, and are operable. Quote
