Cartel drug runners ambushed, an american couple jet skiing on the Mexican side near the old city of Guerrero late yesterday. The man was shot in the head. His wife returned and tried to put his body up on her ski while taking fire, but had to leave him. The attackers chased her a mile into American waters before turning back all the while firing at her. Authorities said they would probably not be able to retrieve the body as the traffickers would probably just cut the life jacket from him or take the body and dispose of it in Mexico.

Article was in the houston paper this morning. To read it go to www.chron.com

Prayers to the family.

Update: Zapata sherrif has stated that the individual missing/killed has been under investigation for a while. They are now throwing the idea around that it may have been drug related. Either way the cartel has no business running into Texas waters firing off rounds at anyone.

Is that being reported by any news organization?  Link?

I have seen conjecture on other forums about the couple being investigated by authorities, but have yet to see anything to that effect reported by the media.

For the life of me,  I cannot understand how some folks think.  I have to think officials in that neck of the woods have alerted boaters to the dangers of just getting near Mexican waters on Falcon.

What is so tempting in Mexico that this couple risked their lives to go there?

I'd give the dividing line a wide berth.

A few things... Officials are doing very little. They say stay out of mexico. No kidding. >:( It ticks me off to no end how this crap is (not) handled. People are getting shot, shot at, chase by PIRATES, some reportedly into US waters and we do nothing but put a sign up at the ramp- stay in US waters.

The twisting, winding creek channel is the boundary... so a jet ski w/o a gps couldn't know where he was. Heck, fisherman with maps have been crossing accidentally.

A buoy line that loosely follows the creek would be a relatively cheap way to actually do something.

We should have armed border patrol boats running the line to deter the banditos.

edited to add:

If they were getting shot at as they fled back to US waters, don't you think the stray bullets were flying into the USA???  And yet we just let it happen.  :-X

It won't be long before those thugs start going after boats on the U.S. side of the lake.

There have already been reports of that happening, which is why this is so freakin' maddening!

Big Brother can't be there to watch for your safety every second of every day.  I'm sure there will be increased patrols now.  Is it worth jet skiing when there's a danger you might get shot? Is it worth it?  THe danger there is no secret.

It certainly doesn't make what these pirates are doing ok, but USE SOME COMMON SENSE!

For all of you that have never been there the boundary is the bottom of the Rio Grande and it is extremely well marked. Tall towers run the length of the lake and there is no doubt which side of the international boundary you happen to be on. Up river it is a little different. Tons of thick timber run out from each side of the lake to the river channel. Not a chance anyone could not tell exactly where you are at any time.

Unfortunate that this keeps happening. I feel for all the people down there. Something can/should be done about it, but it's up to the people in charge to make it happen. Fat chance of that.

"He said the department has two boats with seven game wardens on the lake."

What the hell? Do they really think that is enough? I'm about ready to back this scorched earth policy.

Some well armed SEALS posing as bass fisherman might be a way to deter them. After their butts have been flamed a few times, the bandits may not want to play anymore.

FYI: this is the border. The game wardens take care of the nets and other violations, and help out with anything that comes along. There are enough armed border patrol agents and gunboats down there to start a large war at a moments notice. All they need is the go ahead.

Heck with the SEALS in disguises, just put some trigger happy rednecks out there with unlimited ammo  ::)

That would be the most ideal thing to do, but that cost money and the U.S. doesn't spend money on necessary things.

Its a shame this article is not in the National spotlight!

YES!  Let's go hiking on the Iran/Iraq border or in  Afghanistan! Ican do it; it's my right because  I'm an American for pete's sake!

I'm all for protecting our citizens, but seriuously, could they help us out a little by NOT DOING STUPID THINGS?

Trying to keep the rant short.

On a related note, it's like the people who used to come to Colorado for vacation, and try a "shortcut" on a trail they'd never used before and get lost.  Then rescue squad has to go find them, costing several thousand dollars.  Use some sense. Just a littel. I'm asking nicely. Please.

Go to Mexico, get shot.  Come to America, get health benefits, education and just about anything else you want.

If they were involved in illegalities, shame on them.

If they were typical jet skiers, the majority I've run across having little common sense.  Cest La Vie.

It's making the rounds now. They interviewed the woman on the Houston morning show about an hour ago. Hopefully something can be done. I've got to get my fix and get back down there.

Supposed to go in three weeks, but it ain't gonna happen unless things change. Concerned about staying completely on the Texas side at this time. Don't own enough firepower to feel safe.
