brushhoggin Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 > anyone had this problem? someone is using my card number to buy girlfriends from a Jewish community dating service called jdate. why wouldn't a practicing Jew spend their own money to find love? :-/ this has never happened to me before. canceled my card number and got a new one, and signed up for paypal. i called jdate and they immediately refunded my account. thank you jdate. : Quote
nick76 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Had one of my credit card companies call me urgently one time about 3 or 4 years ago. Come to find out someone had bought about $6000 worth of online music purchases all at once and it triggered an alert. I confirmed that I did not purchase them and confirmed the last known purchase and they took care of the rest. Lucky they were watching or I would have been stuck with the bill. Quote
MMan16 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Definately some scary stuff but glad to hear you got it resolved. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted September 27, 2010 Super User Posted September 27, 2010 Somebody recently tried to charge several things on my AmEx. Was some weird online "company" based overseas. They called me and really quickly resolved it. Had a new card overnighted to me free of charge. I probably wouldn't have noticed it until I got my statement. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted September 27, 2010 Super User Posted September 27, 2010 $5000 worth of computer/electronic stuff from tiger direct. Refunded in 48 hours. Quote
endless Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Some one just stolen my wife's bankcard and ran our account up over $500. I really think I might no who but no proof. The bank did a fraud report and gave us a new account. They claim they don't investigate anything that low but I can't see why not. For one reason we might be scamming them. I hope they do so I can find out who did this and hope it's not my wife lying to me. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 28, 2010 Super User Posted September 28, 2010 Brushhoggin, there is a Jewish dating service? I guess Jewish women are not allowed in men's locker rooms to find the Jewish guys. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted September 28, 2010 Super User Posted September 28, 2010 Don't know if this applies, but I had my $200 Visa Gift Card (Basically debit) stolen and when I told them what happened they canceled the old card immediately and overnight-ed me a new one. Quote
Stasher1 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Had a waitress (or other staff member) at Applebee's use my wife's debit card # to purchase a digital camera online. She rarely uses her card for anything besides groceries and gas. The one time we use her card to pay for a meal and she gets hit. ;D I'm thinking it was just a kid doing something stupid since the charge was made within minutes of paying for our meal. The bank took care of it right away and issued a new card. Haven't been back to that Applebee's since. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted September 28, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted September 28, 2010 Had 3 cards and $27K ripped off within a few hours at one time. Cleared out my bank accounts too. The banks were calling me left and right with "suspicious activity" reports. LOL! Filled out the paper work and got everything cleared up within 24 hrs. They caught the guy months later. Turns out he had 1,000's of card numbers and was selling them to crooks. One of the biggest fraud busts in history. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 28, 2010 Super User Posted September 28, 2010 Do you have proof positive that a Jewish person used your credit card #? The fact is that JDate also has members not of the Jewish faith. JDate is no different than any other online service, unscrupulous people are everywhere. We have had a number of sizable fraudulent credit card charges, one phone call generally clears up the situation. I make a point of checking the recent activity online of all my credit cards about once a week, I like to nip things in the bud. Quote

Ever since my wife's card got hit, she's been checking our account on an almost daily basis. If there are any purchases that she doesn't recognise, she sends me a text asking me what I bought. ;D Quote
nick76 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Just an FYI......I had this happen to me so here is some info as I was told by my Bank Manager. If you use your debit card that also has a Visa or MC logo on it there are times to use it as a debit card and times to use it as a Credit Card. If you are making small purchases you can use the debit feature and it makes the transaction simple. If you are buying larger items then you are need to use the Credit Card feature. It covers you the same as if the purchase was actually made with a credit card even though the money is withdrawn from your account. There are special rights you have with a CC purchase that you do not have with a debit purchase. Just an FYI. I bought a camera lens from a company on line....when I got it they had switched it for a different brand of lens and the one I received was broken (suspect that this was done intentionally). When I called to return the lens for both of the reasons they wanted me to pay to return it and then pay to have the new one shipped to me again (at an extreme shipping cost). When I said I want the correct lens I ordered they gave me the run around about a restocking fee and more shipping and then a large wait time for the actual lens to be in stock. All in all, it was going to cost me more than what the lens was worth and when I pointed out that they were scamming me the gentleman on the line said, "Yeah we got you on this one!". This is a direct quote, not made up. So I called my bank and did a charge back through Visa with my Bank Card. It took 2 days and I had to provide proof I sent the original back, but I got all my money back including the return shipping. So keep this in mind. Quote
