Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted September 12, 2010 Super User Posted September 12, 2010 Yeah, it was nuts. An open post instant became a closed post in the span of a few minutes. Last time I visited, the entrances to the base were still heavily guarded. Quote
bassnleo Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I was at work when it started. Me and the other officers on duty were huddled around the TV when the Chief got off the phone and came out of his office. He received a call from the FAA instructing us to lock down our airport. Our small airport has commercial commuter flights. Upon our arrival, the US Army reserve station which is beside the airport was already locked down and soldiers in battle dress stood outside. We and the soldiers placed jersey barriers at the airport driveway entrance as well as theirs. We stood there till relieved by the next shift. There was talk about small to medium sized jets landing here due to the all the flights being ordered down. All we had was the radio to listen to the reports from NY, but that was plenty. I remember feeling really empty when the towers fell and thinking about all the lives lost. I'll never forget. Quote
llPa1nll Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Never forget. My thoughts are still with the families who lost a love one in this tragedy. Well said Grimlin, that semi is a great idea. Quote
SmokeRise1 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I was at work, in North Jersey, and saw it on TV in the cafeteria while getting coffee. My wife, pregnant with our first child, was on her way or at work in Manhattan. Communication lines were completely shut down almost immediately so I had no idea where she was at 8:45 am. I spent the day watching TV praying I'd see her again. Those of us who had family in NYC were sent home to deal with personal issues. Luckily that evening I got a call from her saying she was OK and staying at a co-workers appt. uptown. I was able to pick her up the next afternoon in Jersey City from the ferry. While a few friends did not come home from work that day, at least she was spared. Worst day of my life. Quote
