Do you believe in life anywhere besides earth? I saw a program on TV about it and it intrigued me. What are your thoughts on it? Would you be ready if they showed up tomorrow? Would you accept them into our society if they wanted to inhabit also? How would you react if Aliens started communicating through our radio? I'm interested in your thoughts and think this will make a decent conversation.

I voted half-half.  One part of me says that if they were out there we would have found them already, but another part of me says what Dave said about the Universe simply being to big for them not to be there.

We've not even discovered all the different beings on our own earth, it's completely logical for there to be other inhabited planets.  Now, do I believe extra terrestrial beings are little green/blue humanoids that are  technologically advanced and have mastered space and time travel, not so much.  At the most I would feel comfortable in saying there are probably beings that are on par with earth dwellers.

Lol, i had an argument with my crazy uncle, about aliens, and he says that its not possible. He believes that god made the earth and earth only and why would he create anything else. He also believes that the earth is only 6000 years old...ya he crazy as hell.

I don't limit God? I can tick off my Christian brothers with this oppinion(not all)

sure theres more out there, I believe so. the human body is too amazing with what he did, our digestive system, immune system, theres NO way he stopped with us.

Shoot His book says he made us in his image, doesn't say anywhere that he stopped making anything else? But I believe theres not a race like us, he did other beings I believe.

I don't think anything has ever visited us, have you ever notice that the UFO sightings goes along with our technology? back in the fifties UFO's looked like Jiffy Pop-popcorn pies, then there came the space lights(psychedelic times) then the 80's was the shaky cam recorder-and so on ;D

Your uncle may in fact be crazy. He may also be right, as crazy as it sounds to you. The point is, we don't have any idea how old the earth is, or how big space is, or what else is out there. There is no agreement among scientists, let alone theologians.

We're walking right up to the religion line here.  Who's gonna cross it?

What we do know is that even though our yardstick is light YEARS, space is massive beyond our ability to measure.

Well, lets keep it to a scientific stand-point since we can't use religion as a reason.

Are we talking about other life forms or actual beings. If you mean that some where out there there is a small bacteria living on another plant, then yes I believe its possible.

If you mean that there are other living beings with animal like natures then its an absolute no.

Just because Space is a big place doesn't mean that there must be other life. That isn't logic its just pure uncertainty the old "I don't know enough so what the heck why not".

For any life form to be like us it must also have some of our traits. It must be able to think, move, make decisions and have a "body" like us. If planets are any thing like science thinks they are how is anything going to survive. It have to be made out of a solid block of metal to even face the extremes on other planets.

Im talking more of intellegent creatures. Not neccesarilly as smart as us but say as smart as the average bear. Basically animal like creatures.

Many have seen many episodes of Star Trek or watched Close encounters of the third kind and may think other life forms exist look similar human beings.  That may or may not be the case, they may look totally different.  Are earthlings the most advanced civilization or are we light years behind others?

Only because I believe in logic and reason.

Seriously??? I have a couple post-graduate degrees with a heavy science background and would have to say that's a pretty silly statement. Water or single cell organisms are one thing, but intelligent beings having to be out there because of "logic and reason" is something else entirely. A few too many X-Flies and Star Trek episodes will put your imagination in overdrive.
