Once upon a time there was a lot of good-natured ribbing between the "Depends" crowd (the Old Farts) and the "Pampers" crowd (anyone younger than an Old Fart.) The dividing line between the two groups was sort of a gray area because the "tweens" were sort of left in limbo until he/she decided to take sides. For the most part, the Pampers group were mostly in their teens and twenties, and everyone else wore Depends. We had a lot of fun with that one, but the founding fathers in the Pampers group had the bad manners to grow into young adults and abandoned us old farts in the pursuit of both a further education and "those sweet young things."

This is an open invitation to reopen the dialog. Pampers, you go first.

I thought I smelled dust and heard the sound of Matlock in the background....

and there you are. ;D

I just hope the seniors don't win in this thread.  I would hate to start seeing peppermint candy advertisements at the top of each page.  BTW, how are those Buicks work backing the boat down the ramp?

If your fart smells like something you ate 4 days ago...it's and old fart. ::)

Who do you know that eats something that smells like a fart?  Besides a dung beetle that is.

The stuff I eat smells fine.  As it passes through my body is when it turns to sh.........., uhhhhh, ooops.  If you get my drift.

I think the first qualification for Team Pampers would be if you ever met a cougar, and she tried to take you back to her place......

At the nursing home!

I think the real answer is an "old farts" forum then. Some place where the "old farts" can interact without the kiddies jumping in. :D

LOL, maybe with less filters too. ;D

So is there any interest in this?  An "anything goes" unmoderated forum?  This would be a password protected, ask-to-join forum so that everyone knew what they were getting into from the start.  Note that BR staff would not mediate nor get involved at all, other than ensuring everything stays within legal bounds.

Any interest in something like that, or do you think it could cause riffs and fights that would spill out into the other forums?

Honestly, I think you hit the nail on the head with the last part.

I don't see people being able to keep it civil or "turn it off" on the regular boards.

There are other places to go vent.

A trial run might be worth looking into.

I would think that if divisive topics are discussed there then it will effect the remainder of the forums.  I was a member of a brewing forum that had an off topic forum that was "lightly" moderated.  Over time things devolved and arguments that started in the off topic forum bled into the other forums.  The off topic forum has since been limited to certain approved topics and things are much more civil.

I doubt that it would be worth it.  Too many people have too many strong opinions and if those opinions are shared they will affect how everyone else thinks of that person.  Sometimes ignorance is bliss.  And for the record, I'd sign up for the "anything goes" forum.  I like a good "discussion".  :P

LOL, don't get me wrong.  I'm not saying I wouldn't participate.

I just hope no one gets their panties (or Depends) in a bunch when I tell them to go *&^%  off and/or tell you which part of my anatomy to kiss.

Just sayin'...   ;D

As Glenn has said many, many times this is a fishing forum. We do have a forum that allows for civil discussion of most topics. There are plenty of forums where you can discuss, fight or rant about politics, religion, civil disobedience, sodomy, mother raping, father raping, whatever.

An "anything goes" forum would not be a positive step in my humble opinion.

I want to see an adults only forum. If having it spill into other forums, moderate it only against personal attacks, nothing else.

What does 80 year old taste like?

Depends.

If you try an adults only forum and it doesn't work out you just shut it down. Another site I go on is having this same debate as we type. If one does not want to participate they need not click on the forum. If things get way out of hand I believe the majority of BR members are responsible and would PM the mods to let them know whats up. The other site I frequent has plenty of guys who fish together and like to do some ball busting, but just like BR it's a family friendly site. It doesn't matter to me one way or another If you add an adults only forum, although I'd probably spend alot of time in there ;)

I don't think you guys understand. I'm talking about a no-holds barred section where the mods don't exist! You don't get some moderation based upon whatever you think is the right amount - because nobody will agree on what that amount should be.

You see, on occasion, we get complaints that we moderate too much, or the censor rules are too heavy-handed. So I thought there might be an interest in the availability of a mod-free forum. But it means just that - you don't like how a thread goes down, you can't turn to us to "fix it". If you don't like somebody or what they said, you can't turn to us to "fix it". If somebody attacks you in there, you can't turn to us to "fix it". You're on your own.

I may even make it a pay-for-play forum so it's very clear y'all understand the rules going in.

I'm just tossing the idea out there in response to some of the criticisms. Just checking to see if there's an interest in a mod-free zone.

I am shocked that this is being discussed. I would love to see a mod free zone in any form. But if I wanna pay for using the f-bomb, I will just use it on my girlfriend, then pay the price ;D

NO you cannot. It would be nice to have a forum where you havent made the most recent post on the top 10 threads ;D

The car of choice for mowing down people on a busy sidewalk or driving through the front of a convenience store..

Nothing offends me and I take nothing personal.(Much easier to get thru life that way) Especially words on a computer  screen. I guess if all who entered were aware mommy and daddy aren't there to protect them, AND the had the option not to participate that would be fine.

As far as "Pay to play" we here in IL are used to that with our convicted politicians ;D
