bigfruits Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I am currently working overseas and I only get to use my tackle every 6 mos or so. i was thinking of putting in a big order for bait and was wondering if soft plastics will still be good a yr or two from now. the bait will be kept at room temperature. i will be fishing in late august and after that i will not be back until next spring. should i just order what i will use this trip or is it ok to stock up? thanks in advance -z Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 15, 2008 Super User Posted July 15, 2008 Soft plastics last indefinitely. 8-) Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 15, 2008 Super User Posted July 15, 2008 I have kept them in their original plastic bags inside my house and out of the heat and they do well after a few years. Even my Gulp!'s do well unless I leave a bag open and then they are a mess. As long as you can keep them in their bags and in your house out of the heat you should not have a problem. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 15, 2008 Super User Posted July 15, 2008 If kept in their original bags in a fresh environment and away from direct sunlight they last indefinately, got a big bunch of bags of Culprit 7.5 inch ribbontail worms I purchased more than 20 years ago and they are still as fresh as new. 21farms Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 i found a bunch of 25-year old kalin's lunker grubs in the garage earlier this year and have absolutely been knocking 'em dead with them this year. in fact, i almost ran out and ordered some "fresh" ones and was amazed that the color, texture, and feel were identical between the old and the new ones. i also found a bunch of even older mann's augertail worms in black grape in an old tackle box and they still have that anise scent on them. JShrock07 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I agree with the what was said about keeping your plastics out of the heat. I accidentally left some of my plastics out in the heat for about 2 weeks straight last year when I was on a dry spell from fishing and the next time I went out I was very disappointed with look of my plastics. They were all squishy and they hard melted and they didn't work right. They were just a big headache. Needless to say after everytime I fish I take ALL my tackle out of my boat and put it into my shed. This keeps them in a controlled enviroment with little heat and keeps them fresh. Quote
Aaron Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 When I started fishing again a few years ago I found some worms in one fo my tackle boxes that are probably as old as I am (22), and they still felt new. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 half life of 1 million years- lol they will out last you unless you mix them with strike king XXX triple strength plastics- they are like a catalyst and react pretty violently when mixed with other plastics. What a mess that was!, my whole box was a robo worm margaretta mutilator purple color after the meltdown of "chernobyl" otherwise known as my late finess box. Quote
