Nick94 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Watch the whole thing! I want him to be my cop Quote
SDoolittle Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I've seen that before, but it was edited for TV. Too funny! Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted August 24, 2010 Super User Posted August 24, 2010 I've seen that one before. It still makes me laugh. The dude in the car was having one seriously rough day. I just love the part at the end where the cop looks at him driving away and says, "Bye." Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted August 24, 2010 Super User Posted August 24, 2010 That video is old and has been used for law enforcement training around the Country. The cop was actually arrogant/sarcastic. Listen closely to his voice and movements and you'll pick up on it. Yes, the driver was an arshole but his fire was also being fueled. Quote

Listen closely to his voice and movements and you'll pick up on it. Yes, the driver was an arshole but his fire was also being fueled. yeah he definitely egged him a bit. I will tell you what. There were 2 or 3 actions he took that a lot of cops would have had him out of the car and handcuffed. Twice he reaches out the window at the officer to grab the clipboard, both times you can see his actions impact the officer. I am betting had the cop pressed those issues this guy would have seriously resisted him resulting in an arrest for sure but more than likely a throw down. His language alone would have gotten him a disorderly conduct charge in a lot of places. When he takes the ticket,r rips it up and throws it at the cop, that could have gotten him charged. It is amazing. I bet this guy 99% of the time (OK maybe just 80%) is a totally normal dude. Just completely LOST it during this pullover. Quote

Seriously, that guy should have been cuffed, stuffed, and thrown in jail. The cop showed incredible restraint. There's absolutely NO excuse for that kind of behavior! Nobody made him act that way, he decided to act like that! To try to insinuate the cop egged him on is outrageous. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted August 25, 2010 Super User Posted August 25, 2010 Yes, the driver was a jerk. But, the cop could have ended the confrontation a LOT earlier. At any rate, it is funny to watch the driver go off like a rocket. You're not getting the whole story from the video. The cop was fired. Quote

The cop did egg him on, but even if he did, the nimrod was acting like a 5 yr old who had his favorite toy taken away from him. My sister and brother in law are both cops, and either of them would have had this guy in the back of their car before you reached the halfway point in this video and they would be 100% correct to do so. Super User J Francho Posted August 26, 2010 Super User Posted August 26, 2010 He didn't do his job. That guy should have been thrown on the ground, cuffed, and hauled away. The roads are not safe with people like him driving. Can you imagine how he'd treat a civilian? Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted August 28, 2010 Super User Posted August 28, 2010 Let me back up a bit. I do not know for a fact he was fired but was told he was. I'm a police officer and this video/incident has been shown for training purposes on several occasions. The instructors from our training unit told us he was fired but I never researched it for verification. It's been a long time but from what I recall, the officer made contact with the driver before the video recorder was turned on. The officer walks up to the truck with his ticket book in hand and then you see the driver ****** something out of the officers hand (I THINK it was his driver license). The officer goes on to try and explain the ticket to the driver and gives the driver his copy. This means the officer had already made contact with the driver in order to retrieve the license. OR If it wasn't his drivers license, insurance or registration that he snatched, then the cop must of had the citation pre-written prior to making contact with the driver. But how would the officer know who's name to put on the ticket? The video shows the officer only going up to the motorist one time. MOST traffic stops involve the officer going up to the motorist 2 times. Once to introduce himself, advise the driver of the infraction and to retrieve the driver's information. The officer returns to his patrol car to write the summons or warning. The officer then returns to the motorist to return the drivers license and issue the ticket. The video only shows the officer going up to the motorist one time. The officer could also, but NOT recommended, write the ticket during his first encounter with the motorist. If this was the case then the video would show the officer writing the ticket while standing at the driver's window, and it doesn't. I may have misspoke about him being fired, I never verified it, but there is definitely more to the video then what was shown. In any case, the video is good for a laugh and it would appear the officer demonstrated great control during the stop, but he actually demonstrates poor officer safety skills. Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted August 29, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted August 29, 2010 Bassn Blvd - THANK YOU for your honesty! I respect that immensely. I find it hard to believe he was fired based off the video. Getting reprimanded for being sarcastic - perhaps. But unless it's one episode in a long string of other, more severe, conduct issues, I can't see him being fired. That said, I'm still very surprised the driver got away with his antics. The officer definitely gave him (too much) latitude, which was possibly dangerous and could have ended up very differently. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted August 29, 2010 Super User Posted August 29, 2010 Thank you, Glenn. I just wish I could remember the exact circumstances surrounding this incident. The video is old but I remember thinking the same thing as others when I first saw it and that was "wow, what restraint the officer had." Our instructors gave us the entire rundown of what happened but I just can't remember. There are a ton of great videos that show both heroic and ignorant incidents involving law enforcement, I'm just afraid to post them because some are sent to me with the heading of "Law Enforcement Use Only."
