SDoolittle Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 another bird dog! I've always wanted a pair of pointers, but for one reason or another, I've limited myself to one at a time for most of my life. Since I'm en route to a new job which should have a less demanding schedule and zero chance of deployment, I've been strongly considering getting another pup. This morning, I emailed a field trialer/ breeder friend of mine, and he made me an offer that is going to be very difficult for me to refuse. Anyway, if things work out, this little guy might be coming to live with me in a few weeks. Quote

Nick94 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 dont get a dog from a breeder save a life and get one from a shelter! Quote
MMan16 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Nice looking dog good luck with'em. Its nice to rescue a dog but as long as you provide a dog a good home it doesn't matter were they come from. Quote
SDoolittle Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 dont get a dog from a breeder save a life and get one from a shelter! If I was looking for a family pet, I'd probably adopt one from a shelter. But I'm looking for a bird dog not a lap dog. This dog will be expected to serve not only as a companion, but also as a big running, tough as nails, bird finding machine. He should have a good nose, intelligence, bidability, and style. Sure, I might get lucky and get a dog like that from a shelter, but by getting one from a breeder with a proven track record, my chances are far better. I'm not getting him from a backyard breeder or a puppy mill. I'm getting him from one of the top field trialers in the country. I did a favor for him a few years ago, and now he is returning the favor by selling me this dog at a greatly discounted price. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 hunted with a pointer last year with friend while hunting pheasants (1st pheasant hunt for me and hey i actually got 1) that dog is awesome at home very mellow and loving but in the field he can be a pita becasue he loved to run way ahead or jump up at close birds Quote
