Super User BrianinMD Posted August 19, 2010 Super User Posted August 19, 2010 Have no suggested sites, but a warning to be very careful with that. Very easy way to get your system compromised by malware. Quote
WanaBe_Like_IKE Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 Lol I use to be a MAJOR computer geek so I know how to do things (sorry if that sounded like a kno it all) but I only play MAJOR games to prevent that thanks though Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 19, 2010 Super User Posted August 19, 2010 I do Cyber Security for a living, lost track of the number of infections I had to clean up from users who thought certain sites are immune because of size or being well known. The individual sites may be good but they can be infected without them knowing it or banner ads can do the malicious activity. Make sure you have a good antivirus, and a back up of anything they can't be lost. It is amazing easy to get infected. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 19, 2010 Super User Posted August 19, 2010 That one works pretty well. I talk to some penetration testers (people paid by companies to attempt to break into their networks) it is scary to realize how easy it is for them. For example, parsing data found on social network sites they can gather potential passwords for an individual person and have over a 90% success rate. For individuals there is one called Zeus, which steals logins to financial institutions, less then half of antivirus software catches this infection. The malware not only steals the login information but the "picture" a lot of these institutions use to validate you are at a correct website, and a screen shot of shot of the website so they have all the information needed. Oh, another fun one is the quizzes some people share on Facebook. Hackers have created some using questions found from financial institutions as their questions to validate your identity before resetting your password. Once on Facebook people would answer the questions. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 To be honest most online games are multiplayer so you will have to chat in the game to communicate with your team mates in a team game. A lot of games you can 1v1 on and not talk to your opponent but they will more than likely talk to you. You cannot get around chatting in the game itself. You can however play games that do not have chat rooms or just not join the chat rooms that are on the game. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Oh by the way I would also go out and buy online playable games and not go to free download sites because a lot of those sites can result in viruses being put on your comp. I just got into playing "Starcraft2" which does not have any chat rooms atm since the game just came out. They will introduce chat in a later patch though. This game is $60 though right now. There are a lot of online games you can get for cheap such as Counter Strike ect though... Quote

NateFollmer Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Can you buy any games? I would highly recommend getting Battlefield 2. It's older, cheap and freakin' amazing. I still play it almost everyday. My username is nfollmer if anyone here has it MEDIC! AH, just thought of one (yelling medic made me think of it haha) America's Army. It's free. There's a chat (kind of) but no one really ever talks to each other because you don't have time to type messages. http://www.americasarmy.com/ It was originally created to be a recruitment tool for the army. IMO, its the best free game out there. Heck, I'd go as far to say it's one of the best games - paid or free. Quote

Super User fourbizz Posted August 20, 2010 Super User Posted August 20, 2010 Never could get used to using a keyboard and mouse. I only like them for strategy games. Quote

My paid like 220 dollars I beleive for my controller? :-? somewhere around there and I bet it can blow your mouse away!! Although aiming with a mouse is easier, I cant get used to hitting buttons on the keyboard. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted August 22, 2010 Super User Posted August 22, 2010 I smell a challenge ;p Haha here's how we'll settle it. You. Me. Dallas Cowboys stadium. Two Wii's. Two Rapala Fishing games. Two 60 yd. tv's. 100,000+ Bass resource members cheering us on. Dallas Cheerleaders cheering us on ( Can't forget them 8-) ). The rules? First Angler to catch and cull 50 lbs of fish. Or we could flood the stadium, stock it with fish, put two bass boats in it and fish for real ! 8-) It would be like arena tournament fishing. Which isn't really a bad idea. That would make money IMO 8-) Quote
