Speed - one questionable exception doesn't change the fact that a person should be interviewed and hired based upon their skills and abilities, not because they get a hall pass due to their age, gender, race, etc. That's not discrimination, THAT'S equality.

Again, I'm speaking about the whole concept. So don't come running to me with some exception in an attempt to undermine the fact that the whole premise behind the Rooney rule is wrong.

Can we get back to talking about the upcoming season now?

Questionable exception? I'm not sure I follow. Would you mind elaborating?

Grimm and Whisenhunt went on to take the losing Cardinals to 2 NFC Divisional championship games and one Superbowl appearance.  And the Cardinals will be a strong team again this year.

Although Tomlin did take the Stealers to another Superbowl win with a team that was handed to him, the rapid decline of this franchise since then under his command, with Rapistboerger in all his glory, paints the real story about Tomlin.

LOL, never fail to take a shot at the Steelers and their "declining" organization. Good one, hoss.

Means alot coming from one of  the toilet bowls of the NFC, Seattle. (Don't worry FBL, the Raiders are the turds in that bowl.)   ;D

Oh, I and see what you did there spelling Whisenhunt's name correctly. While we're at it, Big Ben's name is "berger" at the end. Please omit the "o" in your future spellings.   ;)

Bring on the season already.   ;D

OK.  Personally I would disagree with some of your statements but I will respect your right to express your opinion.

Just one final question:  What is the "real story about Tomlin"?

We're in the AFC toilet, not the NFC.....and like I said, we flushed that turd Russell and we're getting back on track.

Plus, I wouldn't get too bold with the smack talk about the Raiders....they beat your mighty "Stillers' in Pittsburgh last year. That had to sting.   ;)

Wasn't meant as a slam, Speed. It's just the state of the union. And yes, I purposefully pointed out the misspelling since you did it to me. If you take offense to it, then don't dish it out man. Simple.

BadKarma - it shows that Tomlin can't build - or even sustain - a winning team, whereas Whisenhunt and Grimm built a winning team.

And I'm not sure whether my statements came across as intended, so just to be crystal clear, I'm completely against discrimination in any way shape or form. I just think forcing somebody to be interviewed when they're not qualified for the position just so you can fulfill a quota is a waste of time for everyone. I speaking specifically of those situations when the best candidates for the position happen to not be minorities. In those instances, "token" interviews happen just so a quota can be met.

In the other situations when the top candidates ARE minorities, then the rule isn't needed because the interviews will happen anyway.

I don't know.  I guess I'm color blind because I think qualifications and experience should be the only things that matter when it comes to the hiring process.

Let's GO 49ers!!!

I'm hoping the Rams will at least compete this year. 8-8 would be great!

I like Knull last year, I thought he might be somebody for them. Did they even try to hold a QB competition for this year?

10-6, 12-4, 9-7.  His record as a head coach.  Those are all winning seasons.  Won a Super Bowl.

Looks like he didn't completely screw things up.

Personally, I'm quite interested to see hat happens this year.  Ben has thrown a wrench into things once again.  I'm interested to see what Tomlin does with it.  At this point, I don't think Tomlin has shown himself to be a terrible coach.

As for interviews, I personally think the best candidate should get a job...anywhere.  The reality is, people often have predetermined who they want...anywhere.  I don't have a problem with the rule and I do think at times it can be silly.

I would offer this for consideration to you:  Discussing race and using the word "token" can easily take things down a road never intended to travel.

I think all that rain in Washington is getting to you...man.

I'm not a fan of either but I know that had to hurt. Steelers has a shot of redemption this year.

I had a friend that is die hard raider fan and by the way I'm intrigue to see how Campbell, Miller, and Murphy turns out. Zack Miller is one hell of a tight end and I thought Murphy really turned it up last year.

Talk about a sleeper for a wide receiver, what was a fourth round pick? If plays better than last year should have a good season for him. I'll wait to bust Heyward-Bey. But I won't be shock if Murphy has more catches and yards this year over him.

I wished to see how Gradkowski would of finish if he never got hurt but I thought the man was doing very well.

AH COME ON! Someone else has to like the Ravens here??? Help me out here people :P

Its really hard to 'like' a team that could've won multiple Championships if they had just had some sign of a pulse on offense over the past decade. Instead, they let the Steelers/Colts/Patriots steal the show. It was definitely there for the Ravens taking, they just refused to grab it.

You cant have a defense that holds opponents to 10 or less every game and an offense that cant even get in position to kick 3 field goals in 60 minutes time. Sad.
