Super User 5bass Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 i just dont see Anderson getting beat. Me either....not tonight at least. Update: Junior Dos Santos def Roy Nelson (decision) Matt Hughes def Almeida (submission) Clay Guida def Dos Anjos (tap, broken jaw) Stefan Struve def Morecraft (TKO) Jon Fitch def Thiago Alves (decision) Round 1: Sonnen is ALL OVER Silva Round 2: Sonnen wins round 2 as well Round 3: Sonnen won that one too (Silva will have to knock him out or submit him to win now) Round 4: Sonnen again (if he can take Silva down one more time in the 5th w/o getting hit, it's over, Silva cant do anything on the ground) Round 5: You gotta be kiddin' me man, Silva tapped him out with a triangle choke! Unbelievable! Quote

Ky_Lake_Dude Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 the title fight was the most epic fight I've ever seen. one of the most epic comebacks I've ever seen in any sport. This is goin down as one of my top 3 fights of all time. Anderson Silva is the greatest fighter on the planet. For him to get annihlated for 4 1/2 rounds and then submit Sonnen like that was truly amazing. I give Sonnen the utmost respect though because he may have talked all kinds of S*** but he went in there and backed it up. He lost in the end but he beat Silva up like nobodys ever beaten him before. Up until this fight Silva had lost ONE ROUND in 12 UFC fights and then went on to destroy Dan Henderson in that fight. Had it gone to the scorecards, I believe evry round could have been scored a 10-8 and the 5th as well if Silva hadn't gotten the submission. Now I realllyy want to see GSP and Silva fight Now that its been seen that Silva can be taken down if you can avoid some strikes, I believe GSP would have a legitimate chance against Silva Quote
zerofivenismo Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 If Chael would have danced/pranced around in the 5th, maybe the outcome would have been different.....nah, maybe not. Dominated from the top for 4+ rds, and still managed a busted face. Quote
etommy28 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I think he did get one thing right, seeing silva after the fight. I think he is done. If sonnen is smart he will just keep ever thing going and demand a rematch, will silva take prob. not but its worth a try. Quote

If sonnen is smart he will just keep ever thing going and demand a rematch, will silva take prob. not but its worth a try. How can u say Silva wont be seen again? He's just not going to walk away the champ and never return. I don't really know what to think of Silva. I know Sonnen dominated the fight but he gave Silva everything he had and Silva kind of shrugged it off. Sometimes I just think Silva doesn't take it seriously. In the first after getting rocked he just stood there and took Sonnen's punches like they were candy. Almost acted like he didn't care. After watching the fight again this morning I believe he did have some rib injuries too. He was pointing to them walking to his corner. I hope he doesn't fight GSP I believe it will be a boring fight. Silva won't be able to stop the GSP takedowns and GSP will wear him down for 5 rounds. That fight WILL go to a decision. I hope for a rematch. With a hopefully healthy Silva. And I was soooooo glad to see Nelson get dominated. Wow Nelson you won the easiest seasons of the Ultimate Fighter ever. Congrats now get in the ring with a fighter. Oh and btw Hughes is STILL the man Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 Silva got handled and still won. Why in the world would he just walk away? That makes no sense. I couldn't tell that Silva had bad ribs but I didnt watch it but once. It's possible I guess but if that was the case it looks like he would've done a little more defending to stay on the feet. Sonnen was taking him down with ease. He could protect his ribs better standing up but he spent 90% of the fight on his back with Sonnen pounding him in the ribs and everywhere else. That doesn't make sense either. Oh well, Silva still has the belt wrapped around his waist....maybe GSP will be able to take it from him. If he does fight GSP, I agree with whoever said that fight will suck. All GSP's fights have sucked lately. Take 'em down, lay on 'em and hit 'em every now and then. BOOOOOOORING! Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 I doubt that Silva will literally walk away, but he just didn't seem to be 100% there for that fight. In the press conference after the fight he was asked what he was thinking about as he was being dominated... his reply was that he was just thinking about his family and how much he wanted to go home. He's without a doubt one of the top 2-3 MMA fighters in the history of the sport, but everyone's time comes at some point. Wrestlers with decent stand up are Silva-kryptonite, and his weakness was totally exposed last night. GSP would have an excellent shot to beat him (could also get KO'd) and Sonnen very well may beat him if they fight again. I would bet that we won't see Silva fight at 205 again and he will only fight 2-3 more times before riding off into the sunset while still being a dominate fighter. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted August 8, 2010 Super User Posted August 8, 2010 Forgot to add... that was the best top to bottom card I've ever seen. Quote
Big Tom Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I thought it was an awesome card, overall. Matt Hughes looks better than ever these days. It is always good to see a legend still able to hang with the younger fighters. That choke was unreal. Sonnen surprised me with how effective he implemented his game plan. It was truly amazing to see Silva get dominated that way. It was even more amazing to see him lock up that submission after all the abuse he had taken. I honestly think Chael got too comfortable during the last round. He has a habit of getting caught in submissions. I kinda think that fight was exactly what Anderson needed. He has had some odd performances due to his attitude and bad match making on the UFC's behalf. I think he was getting bored and complacent sitting on top of the heap. Well, he got his *** handed to him for 23 minutes, Saturday. Hopefully that changes things in Silva's camp. I would like to see Chael get another shot. I do hope he shuts up this time. ;D Quote
etommy28 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 yall may be right and i may be way off, I just dont think he wants it as bad any more. I can say one thing, I think it was wrong to bring up a misterious rib injury after the fight. I think that was said to just take away how well sonnen beat him up. It it was such a big deal he should have taken the docs advise and not fought. all I know is when i played football and did martial arts(im a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Have a lot of expirance in Hop Ki Do) I was tought if you are hurt and play or fight if you get beat you cant make the injury an excuse(and yes i did both hurt, I did an entire football season with a broken wrist, played with a concustion once or twice and tested for my black belt with a couple broken bones in my hand.). Quote
etommy28 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 let me also mention this, from how it looked to me Dana White did not look pleased talking to Silva after the fight Quote
zerofivenismo Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Chael fought his best fight. Used his strengths to dominate Anderson. And in Chael Sonnen fashion, got caught in a submission. He lost to Anderson on Anderson's worst day; how would he fair on Anderson's decent day? Chael is funny...awarded himself with a silver medal. Boy must have gotten hit harder than I thought. Quote

etommy28 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 not too bad but im just making the point that he should not use that as an exuse when he knew about was told not to fight and chose too. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 11, 2010 Super User Posted August 11, 2010 not too bad but im just making the point that he should not use that as an exuse when he knew about was told not to fight and chose too. It did sound like he was setting up an excuse for that poor (although winning) performance. I was talking to a guy at work about the fight and the rib thing came up. He said thats why Sonnen was able to land some solid punches early on because Silva had his hands low guarding the ribs. But Silva does that in every fight....his hands are always low and he doesn't seem real scared to get punched. From anybody. Henderson, Davis, Forrest, Leben, Franklin...any of those guys have pure knockout power and Silva just shrugged 'em off. He's a bad dude, broken ribs or not. Quote
Big Tom Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 He's a bad dude, broken ribs or not. That much is true. He actually has a pretty impressive chin. He lets people hit him and shrugs it off. I was amazed that Chael did wobble him a bit. I think its relatively safe to say that if there ever was a chance for Chael to beat Anderson, Saturday was it. If they are given a rematch, I think it will end the same...just earlier. Quote

Chael was on top of Anderson for 23 mins and then cried mercy. i dont think Anderson owes Chael a rematch yet, but i would love to see it. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 11, 2010 Super User Posted August 11, 2010 Silva's going to have to change weight classes. Either that or start fighting two guys at once. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted August 11, 2010 Super User Posted August 11, 2010 Silva's been exposed. It's plausible that any of the top LH's would beat him at this point (Rua, Machida, Rampage, Rashad, Jones) due to their bigger size and/or wrestling backgrounds that Silva obviously struggles with. Basically bigger Sonnens with more power and better stand up. I doubt Sonnen would be able to do what he did again if Silva is healthy and I don't think Vitor will beat him either. The only guys that would fight him at 185 that I could see him losing to within the next 2 years would be GSP or Jake Shields. Shields has good take downs with top notch submission defense and lays and prays every bit as good as Fitch. It would be boring, but he could win a decision. Quote
