After a day, I'll say the messaging/email/facebook stuff is far superior to any of the other Android phones Verizon's seen so far.

One big note is it comes with an FM tuner. I hadn't read that in the promo stuff.

It's loaded with a few different things that are "Ahead of it's time" too, which will be fun to watch grow, like the DLNA stuff (Which is one of the 2 ways to share media... Looks to be pretty sweet, haven't really played with it yet though.) And of course, being a Wifi Hotspot.

If you use the flashlight app, or want a REAL flash for the camera, you'll be pleasantly surprised, as the flash is RIDICULOUSLY BRIGHT. I've used the Droid, the Incredible, and now the X... And the X has 5x the flash of either of them, easily. Quite a few functions with the camera too, I'm anxious to go on top of East River Mountain here and try out the automatic panorama feature.

Just got a shipment today! I don't get to have one yet though because they were all sold :( I can't wait to try that auotmatic Panorama setting! My Touch Diamond used to have that feature and I really miss it. I was messing around with one before we sold it and Need for Speed Shift is AWESOME for a phone game! It is a tad big, but that screen is so nice looking that I think I'll live :P

I finally got my X, this thing is awesome! love typing on it (i am right now). The only gripe i have is its kind of hard to hold and its slick. I can't wait for Otterbox to make a case for this. Hopefully they make a waterproof one like they do for the blackberries!

Here's a panorama I did yesterday morning off the front porch at mom's house... The only think I did was shrink it... I have NOT photoshopped it at all, just resized. Basically, the original image is even better than this. lol. One amazing phone... The 2nd pic is of a peach at her house on the tree. (THIS WASN'T EVEN ON MACRO MODE.) lol.

Wow, nice pics from the camera. I just can't bring myself to go out and buy one yet. My renew date is coming up here in a couple of months though. I keep holding out for that elusive iPhone on Verizon........I am just afraid I will get another crappy unstable phone like the envtouch I have currently.

Between the original Motorola Droid, and the Droid X, you'll be hard pressed to find an unstable phone, unless it's defective. (My first Moto Droid was defective, free replacement next day, no worries.) I've seen the Incredible be pretty rough, but a lot of people love their Incredibles, and it's a nice phone too. It's probably "in between" the Droid and Droid X, but it also was in between them as far as release dates as well. lol. If you absolutely REQUIRE a physical keyboard, wait for the Droid 2. Same form factor as original droid, but better "guts." I forget the release date, but it's not far away. Month or two, if that. I'm sure it's on the internet somewhere.

...Lots of people are waiting on the iPhone to show up on Verizon. Many forget, that even with contractual bs aside, the iPhone was/is GSM, not CDMA... That all being said, here's an interesting link from last month: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/17/apple-cdma-iphone-4-rumor-given-new-wings/

Oh, and for the not-so-tech-savvy, GSM is the technology that AT&T, T-Mobile, and almost all carriers abroad use... (Uses Sim Cards)

CDMA is what Verizon, Alltel, Nextel, (insert almost unending list here) use. They are NOT interchangeable, minus a handful of devices that do BOTH (Blackberry has a few that come to mind. "World" phones, as they call them, I believe.)

I am not attached to a physical keyboard as long as the touch screen actually works like it should.  The EnvTouch is all over the place even after several calibration attempts and even getting into the service menu to fix it.  I think the technology has improved over the last year or two as well so the newer phones have improved on this front.

I new the difference in GSM/CDMA was kind of the sticking point.  I am also a little leary about Verizon's control issues.  I can't see them opening the App store for Apple like AT&T did.  They are always looking for a way to make the cash.

Do you think the Droid 2 will be better than the Droid X?  That is the big question.

To me? No. the Droid was a little bulkier than I liked, and the main reason was that sliding keyboard. I LOVE the X because it's thin. Yes, it's a big ole' phone... But it doesn't take long to get used to, and it DEFINITELY fits in a pocket quite well, simply because it's so thin.

The screen calibration stuff on Android doesn't really exist... I mean it does, but It's not something I've ever had to do, and I can't tell you how many android phones I've dealt with while working at verizon. lol.

My Droid X just grabbed it's over-the-air update for little things they wanted to fix. :)

I like my Env3.  Just being a troll.  ;D

I never really bought into touchscreen and smartphone generation. With that being said, I'll probably end getting one next March when my phone qualifies for an upgrade. I don't really want a phone to surf the net with (I could do it with my env3, but eh.) I'm on the internet enough as it is. lol.

I didn't use the pano feature on my phone yet, but I am very impressed with this camera. It takes great video too! It gets a little grainy in low light, but if you resize the pic/vid, you don't notice it.

I highly suggest switching to the Swype keyboard. It took me a few days to get fast, but it's awesome once you learn how to use it. (go to settings>> Input and Language and change from Multi-Touch to Swype).

A must have for everyone with a droid is the Snes emulator :P I play Super Black Bass, Jimmy Houston's Bass Tourna. USA, and Bass Masters Classic Pro Edition all day long :P

Oh, and the Droid 2 should be out the middle of August. Once you start using an all touch keyboard, you won't need the physical. Just turn on haptic feedback (it will vibrate when you press a key, so it kind of feels similar to a keyboard...).

I got my X the second day it was out [over night shipping]

I've had so many issues with it.

It freezes on occasion while typing, the only way to solve this is to lock the phone with the power button and unlock it. This also happens randomly throughout the day. I'll miss calls because my screen is unresponsive, or I won't be able to turn off my alarm clock because I can't slide to dismiss.

Navigation will drop out randomly. On a 1.5hr drive the Nav dropped out 10+ times, it's like someone pressed the "back" button but it was on the dock.

While on the dock with GPS on, the battery will not charge, started the previously mentioned 1.5hr drive at 90% battery, ended the drive at 60%. It never left the dock [yes my dock is plugged in, and I've check the connection].

Here's a Vid of one issue, this is using the swype keyboard that comes pre-installed. This happens about 25% of the time, whether or not I'm plugged in.

Wow. Simon, it's definitely defective, mine doesn't do ANY of that, and I put mine through its paces pretty regularly... Good thing is you have 2 different ways to go. through the retailer you bought it from, AND through verizon via manufacturer's warranty. (There aren't any refurbs yet, I'd imagine, so you'd get a new one.)

It's super simple, I'd definitely do it. Overnight shipping usually.

Did you update your software? A maintance update came out and your phone may not have it.

Go to settings>>about phone>>software update

Got it already, .6 something...that vid was taken after the update.  Happened before and after the update.

Stupid phone! The very first one I activated, the speaker didn't work, so I had to swap it out within seconds :P I haven't heard any other complaints yet... Did VZW get you taken care of?

Had to call in 3 times before I got a rep that would send me a new one.  All the other ones before said that they didn't do returns and I had to go to a store to return it.

That's odd for verizon. They have the best customer service out of everything we sell at work... At least your getting a new one.

Wow, first time I heard anyone say Verizon has the best customer service. I stay with them for the network coverage but almost all the times I have used their customer service I leave frustrated.

If I recall correctly, Consumer Reports basically said that Verizon's customer service and overall customer satisfaction was among the best of the wireless carriers.

Right and guess who is in last place... Begins with an a and their logo looks like a blue Death Star...

EDIT: Well well well, At&t just moved up to second place in C.S.... I stand corrected.

Verizon's customer service is why I have been loyal to them.

I love my X, still playing with it and finding out something new everyday about it.

It is head and shoulders above my BB tour.

My original post was to find out if it could do corporate email and sync corporate calendars.

It does, I just had to find the app and all is good. Definitely a learning curve for someone like me.

Plus I feel really cool having one.

Im looking to upgrade from my env3 to a new smart phone. I have been looking at the droid x. My question is i dont want the phone im stuck with for two years to be old technology in a couple months. will it be?

No. Well, yes, but thats going to happen with any phone haha. It will get it's updates and be pretty current for awhile. My original Droid feels old now, but it's still 'current'. Phones and tech. change so fast these days that you'll never be able to have 'bleeding edge' technology without buying new phones every few months.

The Android OS updates itself pretty regularly and adds new features so any android phone is really going to be current for a good while.

I can't believe how far phones have come. When I started working here, camera phones were 'the thing' and you could only pick from 2 or 3 models with cameras AND they were expensive. Now, just 3 years later, its hard to find a phone WITHOUT a camera (we get requests for that, Amish people get those HA).
