done Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I have a second love to go with fishing which is about equally as expensive. That is firearms. Since I own a boat I do not have a lot of cash to put into anything new but i have wanted a good AR type hunting rifle for a good long while. Looked at a mess of models and calibers finally put my order in for a Rem R25 in .308 today. Found a place near me that would special order it at $300 below retail. Can't beat that. patience pays off every now and then. I am totally stoked, cannot wait till it gets in. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 13, 2010 Super User Posted July 13, 2010 Got any interest in a Trijicon Tri Power optic for the top of it when you are not hunting? Let me know, I'll make you a deal. That R25 is supposed to be a nice shooter. I have shot the R15 and was pleasantly surprised. Since "retail" differs quite a bit, do you mind if I ask what you paid for it? Quote
done Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 About $1280, the cheapest could find them around here beyond that was $1,599. I am looking forward to getting it into the range. I am probably on a terror watch list now after visiting so many evil black rifle web sites in the last 3 weeks checking out specs and prices and reviews. While an AR based .308 can be used for ulterior motives, I really liked the design on the remington. I balanced real close with the DPMS models (especially since they MAKE the R25 for remington). I liked the longer barrel, and the Moss Oak color scheme. It also has a smaller capacity mag. I know that may be downside for some AR folks but I really do not need 25 rounds to take out a deer. If I cannot get the job done with 4, well I need to pack it up and go back to the range. LOL. That being said, I may get a higher capacity mag for the range. Have not decided yet. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 13, 2010 Super User Posted July 13, 2010 If you haven't seen one yet, check out the Nikon Coyote Special w/ the Predator BDC reticle. Doesnt come in the Mossy Oak, so it might not match up too well, but is a SWEET scope. Quote

Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 13, 2010 Super User Posted July 13, 2010 I thought that camo pattern looked a little different than the R25, but that may be just from me looking at it on the computer. The R25 we have at work has more of a lighter green; that scope looks darker. Some people are sticklers for having stuff match exactly. That is a bad arse scope and worth every penny. Quote
